Hi, I'm currently a junior in Illinois. I got a 31 on the ACT (34 on math). I have a weighted 4.6 GPA and an unweighted 4.0 GPA. I am rank 4 in my class (of 689 students). I would like to go into Computer Science. What are my chances in getting into U of I College of Engineering? Also, I was thinking about applying to Stanford. Is that a good idea? Do I have a chance? Thanks!!!

You have a shot at Stanford, but your odds would be much higher if you can increase your ACT score to at least a 34. You would most likely get into to U of I.

Let’s say I do get into U of I. Considering that I am a resident, I will have to pay lower tution. Also, it is likely that I may get some scholarships too. So, I may be paying between $10,000- $12,000 a year (roughly). Stanford, on the other hand, will charge me around $40,000 a year. U of I is currently ranked 5 or 6 in Computer Science, while I believe Stanford is 1. Is this slight difference in ranking really worth all that money and going so far away from home? I’m just confused on whether or not to apply to Stanford.

2/10 would not bang

^lololol

in an U of I and it is the better deal. You can apply to Stanford if you want, but based on academics alone, it’s a high reach. Your ECs would have to be very impressive or you’d have to be a underrepresented minority.

You can apply to stanford, lol. You are talking as though you will get into Stanford if you apply, which is still a pretty long shot and pretty unlikely.
