Rate my chance at Yale

Race: East Indian
Sex: Male

History: I've moved all over the world because of my father's job. I was born in India, moved to Nepal, then to Canada, Germany, Japan, and about six years ago to Connecticut. I can speak many languages, and I noted this in my essay. I can speak (fluently) German, Japanese, Spanish, English, Nepalese, Hindi, and Latin. I learned Spanish and Latin in school, I know English, my father is Nepalese, my mother is Indian, and being brought up in Germany and Japan, I took great effort in learning those languages and continued teaching myself even after I had moved.

Anyway...

Acedemics:
GPA: 3.95, unweighted (my school doesnt have weighted for me yet)
Class Rank: Top 10
I took the toughest course load possible at my school, taking every class as either honors or AP since soph year.

SAT I: 2360: M-800, V-760, W-800
SAT II's: Math- 800, Chem- 790, Bio- 770
I'm taking more SAT II's soon to show that I'm well rounded. Maybe U.S. history or something.

Extracurriculars:

Volunteered at Yale New Haven Hospital- Got a lot of experience with surgeons, etc. Done this for 4 years.

- My band has won a jazz festival at Yale, and I am in contact with the jazz band director there. I've played at many Yale festivals as a solo act.
- I took a course on producing music and I decided to make an album. It is all jazz music and it is all made by me. I got a record deal on it and it is in many stores within the region (including Yale stores). It has been featured in the newspaper.

- One from my AP Calc Teacher
...I'll see if I can get some more/others.

Legacy:

Mom attended Yale
Mom worked at Yale for two years

I also know many of the professors at Yale very well, including three of the science professors (very good friends with my parents). Like I stated above, my cross country coach will recommend me to the track coach at Yale. Finally, I have kept in e-mail contact with the jazz instructor at Yale and he has bought my album and thoroughly enjoys it.

Your opinions please?

Great stats, ECs and a relatively rare Asian legacy (for now). In.

I think you're in. And I sincerely hope you get in. Great!

why didnt you take SAT II languages if you are fluent?

Talk about connections. You're connected with Yale in every way possible. You're in...you've got everything: the scores, the grades, the ec's and service, the connections, the interest, etc...

i think ur in...the legacy and grades and ECs will make u stand out

why bother to ask for chances.
lol

normally there aren't any shoe-ins at ivies. but this is an exception :)

you are definitely in, congrats in advance :)

wow...but who would be willing to bet money that hes in?

No offense here.. but aren't you kind of already going to Yale? It seems like you kind of live there... I would definately say you are in.

If you work there already, your status will depend on what the people there think of you. If they like you, you're in. If they don't like you for some reason, I wouldn't count on being accepted--despite all the stellar grades and test scores, etc.

Networking counts for a lot--at colleges, in business, and in life.

aap yale ke aandar jaroor honge

nice hindi lol

(sigh) unfortunately, mr. bagels here did not cure cancer nor did he even create a clean, neverending source of energy....
so, no mr. bagels, you, mr. cinnamon raisin, mr. sesame, mr. poppy and mr. plain bagel can all waddle back under the cave of inferiority that you came from....

haha, no, obviously i'm joking. you have a phenonmenal shot at yale, and ur life story about learning all those languages is pretty cool, so good luck but i highly doubt that you'll need it.

Hey thanks everybody for the kind words.

Dhanyavad, bhaiya.

lol then you must know what my user name means =P

why did you even bother asking?

on top of that, where did you find time to type all of this between sitar lessons and maintaining a 4.1gpa?

What do you expect us to say?

"Well if only you had a 2400 instead of a 2360"

"on top of that, where did you find time to type all of this between sitar lessons and maintaining a 4.1gpa?"

ya, what he said. I think there has to be more than 24 hours in his day
