Want to know if Cal is going to be a stretch

Resident of California

GPA : 3.83 (uw) / 4.25 (w)

ACT : 33 composite ( 31/32/33/35 E/M/R/S)

SAT 2 History : 700

SAT 2 Chemistry : 690

SAT 2 Math : Will take in Nov

Major : Undeclared ...leaning towards Chem/Bio
ECs : Speech & Debate (State finalist), Dance, Piano, Hospital Volunteer

Hmmm...I would say that you need more EC's, were you the president, vp, etc of any of those clubs you listed. Did you take the SAT I?

I think if you had a kick a$$ essay you could get in.

SAT1 .... didn't do so hot (1960) back in the spring ... I had gotten decent PSATs (217) and didn't really prepare. I am re-taking the SAT1 in Oct 15th but I honestly doubt if I can do better than my 33 ACT (which is approx. 2190). Focussing more on SAT2 Math.

Regarding ECs - yes I am a chair of my sub-group and also I do intend to show case my solo dance performance in front of audience of 500 folks this summer - but honestly do ECs matter a lot for the UCs ?

Good point on the essays - I guess the topics will be coming up on Oct 4th when they post the application form.

EC's matter a TON when it comes to UC Berkeley! They want to see you beyond the academic state. That and the essay are vital for admission. The topics for the essays haven' changed a whole lot the past few years, you can find last year's on the web and bet this year's will be similar, if not identical.

As SAT1's go, you didn't do as poorly as you thought. If you're in-state, that is perfectly acceptable score, I know plenty of people who got in with a lower SAT than yourself.

I think Berkeley is a little bit of a reach but I could certainly see you admitted. I'm going to say 35%. Just try applying and see. Good luck!
