Hello, and welcome to my thread. I'm currently a junior, and I'm looking to apply to several top-tier universities and a bunch of LACs. I want to know what the great minds of CC think of my extracurricular activities? Are they worthy of the likes of Carleton, Grinnell, Pomona, Colorado College, UChicago, Northwestern, and Emory?

Important:
President of a unique club (I can explain it in detail if need be)
President of Model UN (4 years)
Vice President of Environmentalist Club (3 years)
Job at Movie Theater (around 15 hours a week since sophomore year)
Student Tutor (around 5 hours a week)

Less Important:
SADD Club (former Treasurer)
Camping Club (Field Captain)
GSA
Theater (just freshman year, I had to quit because it was too big of a time commitment, but I would like to participate in college)

I'll also probably be in NHS next year. Thanks for the help, guys. I feel like I'm not doing enough in this regard and want to know if there's anything I can do to strengthen my applications (or if this is decent enough).

How bout a nice bump?

do explain this unique club.

also, what’s your intended major?

It’s basically what I like to call an “Urban Exploration” club in which I take my classmates, who, despite living just a few minutes from the city, rarely take the train or go into Chicago much at all, to various neighborhoods and we walk around, see different cultural sites, eat ethnic foods, and stuff like that. We have trips around once every month, and a steady membership of 15-20 people. I think it’s pretty different.

As for my major, I’m completely undecided.

Let’s hear it for the bump.

sigh Can I just get a bit of feedback?

Verrry unique club- sounds like a great idea. I’d guess it will get attention. But, be careful that it doesn’t come across as a privileged, “let’s leave our sweet suburb and go look at the real world” thing. Think how you can avoid that.

Adcoms like student jobs, when they run long and the kid still gets top grades.
Do you do community service, vol in some way? Because getting out there and filling a need, putting some hours and energy commitment into that shows you aren’t just the sort of kid who only does what interests him. It can show you have some concern for others. And, yes, what’s your major likely to be?

*sorry, missed that you are undec. But, likely in what area- ? If you’re STEM, not enough. If you are, say social sciences, better, but give the club some oomph, don’t leave it at a touristy thing.

Yeah, it’s not like that at all. I think I’ll write about it for the short answer on the Common App. Why do ECs have to be better if I want to major in Math as opposed to English? And I need to look for ways to volunteer, don’t know what to do.

Giving this a bump.

just a suggestion- you should look for student outreach programs for low income or low performing middle schools. there should be some way to tutor kids in math, which would get you volunteer hours and a connection to your intended major. reaching into the community is a big deal to these colleges; they want to see you care about where you live and sustaining education, etc etc.
