Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on my list of schools. I feel like I may need some more safeties, and I’m not sure my fits are actually fits. Am I over reaching?

Stats:
Weighted GPA - 4.055
SAT - 1500 (800 in English, 700 in Math)
ACT - 34
EC’s - Mock Trial (Captain), Tea Club, Reading Club, Community Service Club, ASL Club, Drama Club, National Honor Society, Track&Field, Dual Enrollment (ASL 101)
Volunteer - Local Hospital, Town’s Substance Advisory Board
I took 7 AP’s (my school doesn’t offer very many) and doubled up on languages and sciences.

My list:
Bates (ED I)
Connecticut College (ED II)
Colgate
Union
Gettysburg
Franklin and Marshall
St. Lawrence (They will waive my fee if I apply before Dec 1)
Trinity College (I’m unsure about this one, did not like Hartford)
Dickinson
UMass Amherst
UConn (Applying for their special program in medicine)
UVM

I’m looking to major in Neuroscience with a possible double major in French or Spanish and a major in Psych, with the exception of Bates where that isn’t possible.

Good list. You should have many choices as well as a good chance at your ED schools. Make sure your essay is strong, and try to schedule interviews at those schools who recommend them.

@wisteria100 Thank you! I’ve scheduled one with Bates, and plan on scheduling with the others as soon as Alumni interviews open up (Sept 1st).

I like your list. It seems like a good range is schools. Have you run the net price calculators for all of these?

Your list includes only one school (Colgate) for which your standardized scores do not place you above the 75th percentile. If you might want to research further, you could add a desirable low reach or two.

Do you mean minor in psych? Otherwise your text suggests three majors.

@merc81 haha yeah, I meant minor. That was a typo.

What is your state of legal residence?

Love this list!

@gandalf78 I’m from Massachusetts

@merc81 the op has a 4 weighted. If that’s 3.5 uw with test scores it’s a good list.

Your list seems to cover the reach-match-safety gamut well, as long as you’ve accounted for affordability as well as admission chances. You can do that by running the online Net Price Calculators on all schools, then verifying that your family is able and willing to cover the expected family contributions.

Typically, your ED school(s) would be the most selective one(s) on your list (although there’s no law saying it must be so). Colgate is a slightly odd choice just because it is more selective than your 2 ED schools.
I don’t think you’re too likely to be to be rejected by both Bates and Conn College in the ED rounds, then have Colgate accept you in the RD round. If either ED school accepts you, then you are expected to withdraw all other applications (unless the ED offer is unaffordable).

As long as the schools are affordable, I like your list as well. A good mix of schools. (and FWIW If you didn’t like Hartford, I’d just take Trinity off your list.)
