Okay, there's already a thread for Berkeley's dorms. Now, what about rating the students of this world famous school, Berkeley, in terms of friendliness, attractiveness and smartness.

Please do a separate rating for undergrad and postgrad.
Use a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest.

Friendliness: 7. it’s california, not the deep south. people are generally nice, although like any school you have your *******s and elitists and cutthroats.

Attractiveness: 3. for female population only. there are the occasional bombshells, but far and few in between.

Smartness: 6. but then again, I’m out of state

Hahaha, well let me pitch in for grad students: Friendliness = 7, though I admit I’ve been around a friendly lot, Attractiveness (for females) – I dunno? There aren’t that many I know. Probably on average more attractive than the undergrads. Intelligence: if undergrads are on average 6, then 12+ for the math grad students.

Undergrads – I kinda agree with the poster above me, though I’d rate it more like 5-5.5 if I could for smartness on average. Varies heavily. I’d rate, say average engineer to be something like 7.5. Smart engineer 8, and the very smart students in any discipline (the “stars”) at 9-10.

Yeah I was talking about undergrads. Berkeley undergrads on average are not that great, and I wouldn’t say it varies by major. It’s really shallow to say MCB or engineering are way smarter than history majors. Give them respect, historical research is hard. btw, berkeley grad students are amazing - berkeley is top 3 in a lot of fields

I’m not sure if I’m going to agree with this one. I mean, come on. The stats of science and eng’g majors are usually higher than those taking up non eng’g/comsci/business/science majors…even in other peer schools of Cal.

^^ True, but your average engineer is just more motivated, fiesta. I am not an engineer, and am disinterested here – when you’re just in general admitted into a more competitive program, the average student will be more motivated and talented. That simple. It’s basically why the average MIT student will probably be sharper than your average Cal student, even if there are Cal students who could be at the top of an MIT class.

I’d say your average math major himself is not as good as the average engineer, though especially successful math majors at Berkeley tend to be quite exceptionally motivated.

Your average L&S student is just not that great.

Ok what about the attractiveness of guys? I mean it’s kinda unfair that only girls are getting judged because I’m pretty sure the guys aren’t that great if the girls aren’t. Just saying LOL

General attractiveness of the student body is a worthless attribute to measure. Whether you’re a part of a drop-dead-gorgeous student body or a hideous one doesn’t matter. If you have no game, like 90% of the student population here, then you’re not going to get any. That’s that. On the other hand, if you have game, there are plenty of attractive students here who can help you “enrich your college experience.”

However, if you’re into fantasizing about your fellow classmates while you’re on campus, then you’d probably be happier at USC or ASU.

Well the good thing about having UCLA in the public system is that most of the superficial a-holes don’t choose Cal so you end up with a really nice, down to earth crowd. The bad thing about that is down to earth people tend not to give 2 *****s about their appearance and so generally, the student body looks like cr@p but amongst 20000 people, it’s not hard to find a few that match your tastes :). The intelligence is okay - to me, it seems like most of the students are hard workers rather than geniuses but again, amongst 20000 it’s really easy to find those people who just make you say “wow”

No, as a girl I disagree strongly. I think girls are around a 7 and guys are around a 5 with a -2 factor for being terribly egotistical or creepy. The girls here can be pretty if they bothered to get up an hour or two earlier every morning to put on make up and what not, but that hour or two could be better used for sleep. Furthermore, at least the girls here aren’t going to stalk you around or do other creepy things like some of the guys here seem to do. On the bright side, Cal has more attractive guys than Northwestern, according to my friend from Northwestern. I imagine the number of attractive girls is also greater at Cal than at Northwestern.
