you’re in luck. every dorm just happens to have the most asians. LOL mirite?

no, ur doing it wrong.

There is an Asian theme house =)

What does substance free mean?

Also, what are mini suites for the units like? Are they not worth the price? Are they really hard to get for freshmen (i might get it cuz of regents, but i want to be with other freshmen  )

SFE means that if they catch you using drugs, they can kick you out of your dorm.
If you are SFE and you are seen anywhere by an RA/etc. you could be kicked out. That is not true for all other dorms

Interesting, I didn’t know it was anywhere…so Im guessing that includes alcohol?

On the website it says drugs, alcohol, smoking, so yea. Wow, what’s the point of making one part of unit 1 like that? People in the other 99% of UCB’s campus will still be doing all those things regardless.

So, I was thinking about tripling in one of the units with some of my high school classmates. We’re not exactly close friends, but they seem alright. However, if they get noisy, is there always a quiet place to get away and study on my own? I might just end up using my dorm as a place to sleep, and spend the rest of my time elsewhere…or is that unrealistic?

I was gonna room with a friend from HS, but he decided my snoring might be too bad, but was still undecisive about it lol

Does anybody know if it would be easy to switch once school starts if we both didn’t like our roommates to be roommates?

ALso, I just put in my app. Here’s my order:

1) Unit 1 Mini-Suite
2) Unit 1 Double
3) Unit 3 Double
4) Clark Kerr
5) Any room, anywhere

does anyone know if the minisuite floors are still co-ed?

Hey I heard that freshmen usually don’t get into the units…is that true?

If it is, would it be risky to put any one of the units on the top of my list? Would it be better to just be safe and put ckc at the top to begin with?

I don’t know on what basis to order my housing app on…my preference? the likelihood of me getting my top choice?

HELP!!!

I don’t think that’s true, I mean it doesn’t make sense since most people move off campus after their first year…

OnePurpose: What you heard is not true. Most of the dorms consist of freshmen, though this is not to say that sophomores, juniors, and perhaps even seniors won’t be in there. (Sophomores also get guaranteed housing, so like I’ll be in U2 next year) Put what you would prefer.
I doubt this is valid but it just seems to me like if you put FH/CKC, you’ll have a higher chance getting in just because they want you to pay more money in dorming. Yes, you do have bigger rooms, but sometimes I don’t think it’s worth it to pay up to 3-5K more for just only that much more space. So if you want Units, then put units first. If you liked CKC, then put CKC first. You will never know how likely it is to get into your top choice is the way I see it (Unless you pick bowles/stern probably). Just be prepared when you get the offer letter…haha sorry, that’s the way it is.

yeap. it’s nice.

Do all of the halls have like outdoor basketball courts or like some kind of recreational areas within/near them? Or is this only true for some halls…

bowles or unit three triple…im a sppring admit and the office is letting me choose…any opinions?

all guys vs. drunk kids who can’t hold their puke until they get to a toilet. You pick.
And it depends. Bowles is easy access to the science/eng/math. Unit 3 - rsf, front of school, more choice for food though you’ll end up at asian ghetto inevitably. as does everyone.

I’d say unit 3. I’m not into all that sausagefest sort of deal.

but yeah, a bit more info would help. do you want to go to the gym regularly? what’s your college or what classes are you taking? do you mind living with a whole hall of guys? etc. etc.

the RA can really change the experience too, I have noticed that stuff like smoking really doesn’t happen at unit 3, where as it happens at unit 1 and 2 more often. its pretty annoying sometimes but most RA’s crack down on those violations and Unit 3 has won awards for having the best hall staff, which is interesting since its the most social dorm.

Reviving this thread for incoming freshman/transfers.

Where I lived
Unit 1 Christian Hall: All I can say about this building is that it is clean, new facility, and pretty secluded. I lived in a triple that along with a double made up into a minisuite with our own showers and bathrooms. Besides being a quiet environment I would give it a 4/5 star for location to my classes and proximity to Crossroads. My roommates bumped the rating from a 3 because they’re transfers and brought over a lot of cool people into our room.

Unit 3 Ida Sproul: A decent location with scenic views of the bay if you get the south rooms. Probably what makes this building a 5/5 has to be the experience of living with the people on your floor. I just happened to be on a floor with a lot of cute freshmen girls and down to earth people, so I felt like I never wanted to leave. I also lived in a triple, downgraded from the minisuites but can’t complain that my roommate brought a PS3 and a car. Talk about good living.
