<p>^ 7/10 to whom? </p>
<p>Mind don't get rated? :(</p>
<p>lol :)</p>
<p>CrzyGmr: I don't think your ECs are an "epicfail"! Just work for a leadership position and start some community service (not to get into college, but for the good of it!)</p>
<p>OK so here are my ECs:
(I am a junior)</p>
<p>Sports:</p>
<p>Soccer - 9 (JV), 10 (JV), 11 (V)
Lacrosse - 10 (JV), 11 (try outs soon)
Golf - 9 (JV) *note - I'm not sure I should put this b/c I was just trying out the sport and I didn't really enjoy it...</p>
<p>Clubs/Activities:</p>
<p>Student Council - 9 (TA Senator), 10 (Class Officer), 11 (Class Officer)
Doernbecher Week Committee - 9 (member), 10 (Special Event Co-Chair), 11 (General Co-Chair) ....Doernbecher Week is like a second spirit week and we raise money for Doernbecher Children's Hospital (normally between $12,000 - $15,000)
Ambassadors - 10 (member), 11 (Marketing Chair)
Campus Ministry and Service - 11 (Service Team, organizes various service projects)</p>
<p>Volunteer Hours:</p>
<p>Day Camp Counslor (4 yrs., about 160 hrs.)
Various Girl Scout Service Projects (yes, I am still a Girl Scout and have been since kindergarden)
National Charity League (various service projects in the local area)
Library (summer reading program, just beginning more shelving work, etc.)</p>
<p>Special ECs/Summer Activites:</p>
<p>Young Entrepeneur's Business Week: intensive business camp, learned a ton!
Enterprise Academy: through Rotary, business weekend camp, super fun!
Backpacking: various locations during summer
Travel: France/England, Grand Canyon/Zion/Bryce Canyon</p>
<p>Any feedback would be great! Thanks everyone!</p>
<p>Musicallylatin, you really seem to be focused in the music stuff, 7.5/10</p>
<p>Edit: Wow, ninja'd by clinegirl.
clinegirl, I wouldn't put the golf down, it was 9th grade only and you didn't like the sport. You're doing perfectly. Helping to raise over $12000 for a hospital? That alone's worth a 9.5/10</p>
<p>I'll post a laundry list:
(Currently a junior, our school system is a bit weird, the high school only goes from 10th to 12th grades and the junior high has very few available e/c's)</p>
<p>Mu Alpha Theta-11th (math honor society)
Future Business Leaders of America- President, 11th
Robotics Club - President 10th-11th
Young Democrat's Club-11th
Foreign Language Club 10th-11th
National Honor Society (Pending application, probably will be accepted though) 11th</p>
<p>Four years of designing internet websites for fun and profit using PHP and MYSQL databases. (this eats up a lot of my time, but I really love it)</p>
<p>I was 6th in my state on the national french exam last year? (probably not too impressive - I live in a small state)</p>
<p>Why am I doing this I don't even</p>
<p>Junior, small public</p>
<p>Autism
-Brother is autistic, go to this weekend camp three times a year to volunteer along with other random things throughout the year. Pretty much a whole life thing.</p>
<p>Sports
-Football 10, 11 JV (lol I suck, and have bad knees and all)
-Basketball 9 Freshman Team 10 JV 11 DNP (knee injury)</p>
<p>Scouts
-Since I was 13, 12
-Eagle...soon, working on it
-Troop Order of the Arrow rep. (the OA is like scout's NHS)
-Pretty active in everything</p>
<p>Clubs
-Science Club 7-11 President(11), does science olympiad. Won first in Five Star Science in the state region, but couldn't go to states because advancement is based on teams. I was mad.
-Outdoor Club 11 Founder/President inb4 "I hate people who start clubs" this is 100% legit, I had to make a petition, write a mission statement, present to the school board, etc. And it has like 30 members already which is awesome. We do fun outdoor stuff and conservation.
-NHS 11 active member, don't plan on being an officer though. Well maybe, idk something like secretary.
-Foreign Language club 9-11 member, I joined for the annual trip to a city (not going this year, scouts)
-Weight Lifting Club 11 member lol</p>
<p>Science Research
-Assisted on a university one, should probably start asking for more to do
-Submitting one I did for class to Junior Science Humanities Symposium and a couple other things
-Like it a lot, will do more projects. Kick myself for not starting earlier</p>
<p>-Chem Olympiad Exam this year
-Just started volunteering at the hospital</p>
<p>Summer
-9 did Seabase with scouts, OA stuff, nuthin
-10 went to Costa Rica with a group of area students, worked on research project, nuthin
^Obviously not merit based or anything
-This summer applied to TASP (hahahaha ok) and Gov. School, which could be cut from the PA budget. But I should be able to find something to do for college preperation that doesn't cost a ton, Costa Rica was kind of a lot and I can't do that two summers in a row.</p>
<p>-no jobs, combo laziness/not wanting to buy anything/not knowing about how part-time jobs work. Will get one senior year, maybe in the spring when I am no longer crippled for misc. college expenses</p>
<p>Awards
-bunch of school ones
-will get NMSF almost 100% sure
-idk, I got 8th in the state geography bee in eighth grade</p>
<p>So yea. I am a dabbler. Do I seem to have a passion at all? Some commitment obviously, but nothing incredible. Am I screwed if I want to get into an Ivy or a similarly selective school, I've heard they build classes by assembling a bunch of talented people in different areas.</p>
<p>Wow... all of you people are really EC- crazy!!</p>

<p>Wombat soup... 8.5</p>

<p>Club
-Key Club member 3 years, VP 1 year

<p>Work Experience
Summer 09 - Fall 10? @ Noah's Bagels or Gamestop</p>
<p>^ 5.5/10</p>
<p>Mine: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1061799064-post9.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1061799064-post9.html</a></p>
<p>@ lolcats4 If you're going to rate me so low, at least tell me how I can improve.</p>
<p>7/10, achievements in the gaming industry won't help. I've got a few (like admin for a game site), I doubt colleges will care.</p>
<p>@ theReach: Your ECs aren't bad at all - they are quite decent. I rate pretty harshly, so don't think that 5.5/10 = fail! I would rate them higher but they lack anything majorly distinguishing. My advice would be to get some more leadership in them and do some major projects :)</p>
<p>Also, I respectfully disagree about your opinion on my gaming industry "EC" (I don't really consider it an EC, more like training for a job in the industry). How many people do you know are flown on the tab of the world's largest/2nd largest game producer to test their in-development games? Not many. I don't see how being a member of a sports team could be more impressive (unless you're a nationally ranked/competitive athlete). </p>
<p>And I don't care if colleges don't care - I wouldn't have changed anything I've done lol. Their loss if they reject me solely on the basis of my gaming "EC" :P</p>

<p>wth Poseur. I expected at least a 4 :(</p>
<p>@lolcats4 it's cool. What major distinguishments do you suggest?</p>
<p>Ok, since no one posted in a while...I'll start up again.</p>
<p>*Speech& Debate Team (9th)
-Went to many competitions and won numerous awards even on the state level. Could not continue because it was not available at my new school.
*Violin
-Have been playing for 8 years, and freshman year played in the Symphony Orchestra.
*Model UN (10th-12th)
-Delegate
*Yearbook (10th-12th)
-Editor in chief Senior year.
*Science Club (11th-12th)
-Vice President
-Serve as a mentor for elementary school kids and help them conduct research at the vernal pool.
-Also set up many other fundraisers and events.
*PEER Leaders (11th-12th)
-Community leaders from the school.
-We do various community service and help around the school.</p>
<p>Community Service (about 200+ hours):
-Elks Lodge (over 50 hours)
-Pediatric Doctors Office (about 30 hours)
-Local Hospital (about 50+ hours)
-Various other events including Special Olympics, Soup Kitchens, Mosque...etc</p>
<p>Other Stuff:
-Did some research in a Genetics Lab at URI. Did everything from PCR to Extracting DNA to helping with a primer design. Research wasn't published or anything, but spent 6 continuous weeks with countless amount of hours.</p>
<p>-Interned at InCube Labs for a few weeks at the end of the summer. It's a biomedical research company in northern CA. Worked with a cell biologist and chemical engineer to help design and test a device that would be implanted in the spine to reduce pain. Paid internship.</p>
<p>-In summer 2006, I went to India and for about 2 weeks and did some community service there. My grandfather lives in a small (rather poor) village, and he also works in a nearby clinic which treats patients from that area. I worked/volunteered at that clinic.</p>
<p>-I've also been tutoring a girl in Biology...but I didn't put this on my app. :/</p>
