I actually do feel that UM is not far off from UF.

To say UM isn't remotely close would be putting it lightly.

hello, very interesting points by many. wealth of good info.

Like I said the ranking is not too far off. 47 and 54 is not that big a difference.
47 (UF) and 110 (FSU) is a big difference
54 (UM) and 110 is a big difference.

Not really--What really matters is the program/major you're doing.

^Agreed. Do a program by program comparison.

For example:

Meteorology - FSU>>UM.
Med schools UM=UF >>FSU

Law - UF=FSU>>>>UM
Business- UF>FSU>>UM

I think UF law is better, but FSU's is still good. My dad turned out pretty well from his JD from UF :)

I would also say UF has a better med school than UM. For most programs, at least the large ones, UF has the higher ranking (engineering, medicine, law, business).

UMiami is the best school in the world, and even being mentioned in the same sentence as UF and FSU is a disgrace.

The Canes are ballin!!

hahahahhahahahahahahahah you sir are a comedian. When is the last time the 'Canes did anything?

UM Med is very comparable to UF Med. I say that as an FSU alumnus with a daughter currently applying to med schools. Neither has an edge on the other, with the exception that UF applicants have a slightly higher incoming GPA than UM (does this really mean much at this level? I tend to think not much.) The rank is very close per the MSAR 2008-2009.

Note that UM Med receives a LOT of state support through Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Please minimize the academic trash talk.

UF, FSU, and UM are all on the rise! It's great to be a Floridian.

"when is the last thing the 'canes did anything"
- 2001: national champs!! :D
- 2002: played in the finals. lost to the Buckeyes
- dont know what bowl games they wont through 2005
- 2006: 35-0 over FIU and a big time beating :D haha
- 2007: MPC Computer Bowl winners
-2007: will kick the seminole's asses in their own house! :)

They are the school with the most first draft picks from the NFL :D

the Canes are indeed Ballin... and with Shannon, things will hopeully only get better ;)

Wow, are you seriously proud of that game with FIU? As someone from Miami, I was truly ashamed.

lol it was a good beat down by Miami though. :)

Remember that body slam!

So they havent done anything in 5 years...

sending a lot of players pro lately (Greg Olsen just went first draft pick this year), winning Bowl Games... I wouldnt call that nothing...

regardless, I dont wanna turn this into a football thread ;)

24, 25, 31, 120, 127. Meriweather was the first Cane taken, not Olsen...

Super job Canes!

The OP wants to rank FL schools, but I really think it should come down to what you're looking for:

UF - Flagship U...strong national rep. Great for research opportunities, most majors and the classic college experience.

UM - Private U with a strong international rep. Also offers most majors and research opportunities with a traditional college experience plus Miami.

NCF - Public LAC mostly unknown except in academic circles. I think of it as prep school for post graduate studies. Non-traditional college experience and limited majors, but excellent research opportunities.

FSU - Excellent state school with a great reputation. Best for film (one of the top programs in the nation) and the arts. Traditional college experience in a small town plus state capitol.

Other state schools - They each have their strong areas, such as UCF for film production and USF for pre-med. It looks to me like they are all making efforts to improve their programs.

Private LACs - FL has some good ones...Rollins, Stetson, Eckerd and Flagler and some bad ones...Nova. They each seem to have their own strengths and personalities. Depending on what you would be majoring in, would be how they should be ranked.

Sorry for not keeping this on your football track!!! :)

UCF+CompSci
