Autmaine - 'pretty much the same experience' ?

but you can't watch varsity hockey games at bates!
Who would go to college in Maine and choose a school without a hockey team. Honestly.

I would.-- if you meant that as a question. Bates does have all the other sports and does pretty well in the NESCAC conference (they have a club hockey team too). I guess it depends on how important it is to you to watch varsity hockey games, at your own college, in Maine. But I still like Bowdoin the best and really want to get in next year. I'm really nervous about it, though, it only gets harder every year. All I can do it try.

I meant I really want to get in when I apply next year.

I meant that as a general rhetorical bates comment :-p

I'm a Bowdoin student - if you come here you'll see me at every hockey game we have.

williams
bowdoin
midd / amherst
tufts
wesleyan
colby
hamilton
conn
bates
trinity

it’s tough to rank Tufts since it is a mid sized university not LAC.
reading the rankings posted here look pretty accurate.
all good schools!!!

Trinity (I’m posting on my phone so this is gonna look a little weird) but I can not believe some people would rate ConnCollege and Trinity over Colby. While I agree that Bowdoin and Colby engage in the biggest rivalry(academically), you can ask more of the students at Colby and Bowdoin and they’ll tell you Bates is in the lower tier of the 3. From what I’ve heard, Bates dorms are the ugliest and least renovated, and Bates is probably the least prestigious of all 3. Now don’t get me wrong, Bates is still an amazing school, but saying its better than Colby is a bit of a stretch. Now as to Connecticut College and Trinity, most kids at ANY NESCAC school will tell you these are the least “worthy” of the NESCAC. As kids at both Colby and Bowdoin told me when I toured, “ConnCollege and Trinity are the ***hole of the NESCAC.”

^ disagree with u. While it cannot be denied that Bowdoin is highest in that rival triangle, I think Bates is the middle. Bates’ ranking is higher than Colby, and acceptance rate is lower.

While you’re entitled to your opinion, I think that saying that Bates is better than Colby based on rankings (which vary from source to source and have wonky methodologies) and acceptance rate (Which only tells you how many people were accepted. It says nothing of the stats of those students, which are better conveyed elsewhere) isn’t the right way to go about it.

I agree with thinker88. Also, if you find different rankings Colby is actually ranked much higher than Bates:

[America’s Best Colleges Page 2 of 25 - Forbes.com](<a href=“Forbes List Directory”>Forbes List Directory)

But lets be honest, rankings really don’t mean that much when you’re talking about tier 1 schools (in all honesty). I think that Bates and Colby are very different schools in terms of environment and overall “prestige.” One thing you have to take into account as well, is that Bates is SAT optional, so it’s admissions process is very different from Colby or Bowdoin. However, Bates is still an amazing school and I would choose it any day over many other schools in and out of the NESCAC; you just can’t compare Colby’s admission % with Bates’ when they don’t even use the same system!

^Bowdoin is also an SAT optional school.

Williams/Amherst - Smart kids who could have gone anywhere.
Bates - in Lewiston - end of story.
Colby - in Waterville - almost end of story
Bowdoin - best school in Maine.
Wesleyan - too many wierdos/hipsters
Tufts - university not a LAC
Hamilton - in New York not New England
Trinity - best party school and not so smart prep kids make it easier to get good grades.
Middlebury - has a ski area but grounds need work - too much green influence
Connecticut College - best looking girls but effeminate guys.

^^I think readers need to consider the messenger here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/bowdoin-college/1010882-things-consider-about-bowdoin-especially-if-your-eding.html#post11290992

This is the most pointless thread I have ever seen. They are all great schools, and 99% of college applicants couldn’t get in to any of them.
