I'm interested to hear your opinions on these.

They are all excellent schools and they are very different from one another. While they are both strong academically, UMichigan and Vassar are about as different as you can get in my book. You should visit them and decide which feels right to you.

I have visited these schools. However, it is hard to tell most prestigious just from visiting. Obviously this won’t be my only factor in deciding, but it’s nice to know.

Business/Economics, something along those lines.

Michigan is the best for business

^ With respect to getting into business school (or law school, or med school, or graduate school of A&S), your achievements (or lack thereof) will override any “prestige” advantage from attending one of these schools, not the others.

Bates, Vassar, Hamilton, Wesleyan, and Middlebury do not offer undergraduate business majors.

If you want to go into finance, Midd. has the strongest alumni network of the bunch and is pretty well represented on Wall Street given its size.

You can go to “business school” at Michigan. Like most large universities, Michigan is divided into schools, and the business school at the Ann Arbor campus is the Ross School of Business. It has an undergraduate business degree (BBA, Bachelor of Business Administration). The Ross BBA is the only business degree ranked in the top 10 (I checked a few different ranking lists) of the schools on your list. If you are sure you want to major in business, this is a no brainer.

Yes, you can get a job in New York with a Michigan BBA. (I have a Michigan BBA and and MBA from another school, and trust me… the BBA is a very marketable degree, and also opens doors to grad school).

Really helpful everyone! Thank you for the replies.

Ranked relatively, by prestige.

Don’t waste your undergraduate years on a “Business” degree. You’re better off deeply immersing yourself in advanced math and econ.

Kwu, it certainly depends on what you want to do… a BBA will get you ready to perform immediately in the business world, vs. an advanced math or econ degree that is sort of peripheral to what businesses to every day. Business majors typically study finance, accounting, marketing, business law, information systems, operations management, etc. Skills that are useful right away in a business setting. In 99% of the companies in the world, you can go a long way with that degree without ever going on for an MBA or other advanced degree if you go to a good undergraduate business program.
