Do people benefit from forms of entertainment that show so-called reality, or are such forms of entertainment harmful?
Little benefits could be obtained from watching reality television programs. A lot of people deem that these shows are entertaining but some of them are actually not worthy of their time investment and they can be mentally harmful and misleading.
The reality show “16 and Pregnancy” shows lives of hundreds of teenage moms who accidentally got pregnant when they were all under 18. This show usually records the changes from before the baby’s birth until after the baby was born. Some of the girls become single moms, raising their kids by themselves; some of them choose to give their kids to the social service and forget what happened. Most likely, these teenage girls decide to form families with their kids’ fathers, whose roles then switch from boyfriends to husbands. Regardless of their solutions to turning into young parents overnight, none of the kids at this age should be worrying about when to appoint with obstetricians, how to get scholarships while having an unborn baby or where to earn money to pay for their babies’ medical bills and living supplies. Tons of the storytellers in the show apply for subsidies from social welfare department simply because they have kids as 16-year-old youngsters. I personally believe the show is strongly misguiding since it conveys to the public that it okay to have unsafe sex, that it is okay not to shoulder responsibility and that there will be someone that helps you make up stupid mistakes like ‘accidentally’ conceiving a baby. Even if I’m not a taxpayer, I still feel unfair for those people who pay their government to build up better education, medical care and infrastructure construction but not to feed unexpected population. In short, the image that this show presents is morally unacceptable.
Another controversial reality show called “Here Comes Honey-boo-boo” resembles the famous movie Truman’s world; both Honey-boo-boo and Truman have been televised since the moments they were born without their awareness. The difference between these two shows, one fictional and the other one actual, is that Truman lives in an enclosed studio and has been laid to all his life while honey-boo-boo lives in an open real world and she’s learning to perceive the authentic surroundings. Though the Truman’s movie focuses on the spirit of questioning preset environment, the courage to beak the limits and the personal pursuit to explore and define who we really are, yet the movie still depicts Truman’s process of struggling and self-denying after he noticed the irregularity in his world. The good thing is Honey-boo-boo is still too young to figure out the truth but what would happen when she grows up and sees all these series? I can’t imagine how devastating it will be for a girl that is ridiculed and mocked because of her naïve and illiterate behaviors. Beyond this part of the show, the rest of the women on this show are genuinely obnoxious. None of them feel ashamed by their astounding divergence from socially accepted beauty standard or by their hillbillies’ under-urban lifestyles. Dispassionately speaking, this reality is a shame and harms for Honey-boo-boo herself and it is also a disturbing show for the viewers.
Nonetheless, among hundreds of different reality shows, a certain number of them are pretty didactic and educational. An outstanding example is named “Beyond Scared Straight” whose crew put some ghetto kids into the prison for one day or so, hopefully making them significantly less ghetto. The show itself is a quality entertainment to watch and it helps these kids get back on track efficiently. On the other hand, it serves a precautious purpose for those ghettos that are not on the show, indicating that everything will happen to them if they don’t stop what they’re doing.
All in all, this type of entertainment might be visually enjoyable but it causes more harm than benefits.

I think the examples are relevant and convincing. How about the thesis and reasoning? should I analyze more on why so called reality show perpetuates a brainwashing message. The message that distorts and manipulates reality.
