Rats!!!

I'm terrified of rodents. To anyone with personal experience, how bad is the rat problem, and how do I keep them out of my dorm?

You keep them out of your dorm by cleaning up after you eat and not leaving food (OR food remnants!) around.

But if I insist on leaving leftover pizza/ cookies/ sandwiches in my dorm, to be finished later, how then could I keep them out?

put your food in tupperwares or keep it in your fridge.

So what if I have messy neighbors, or a rat just wanders aimlessly into dorms?
Is there a way to physically block them from entering my dorm?

maybe by sealing all the walls, your windows and the crack under your door with concrete? it's not THAT bad in most dorms (except Wien and McBain, both upperclassmen dorms)...you'll manage.

buy a gun

kill 'em all!

Last time in New York, it seemed like the rats kept to the basement areas where the garbage is. I never really saw them anywhere else.

rats probably get too tired to climb up more than a few stories, anyway.

or something.

Hi,

I'm terrified of bugs, even tiny little ones. I know they are obviously unavoidable anywhere in the world, esp NYC because I live here, but could someone please let me know how bad it is in Columbia, even if, say, we keep our rooms very clean.

Thank you..............you really dont know how terrified I am of bugs lol :)

bugs aren't really a problem. in fact, i've hardly noticed any over my two years so far in the dorms.

RATS!?!?!!? are you kidding me? now i am freaking out ... do they get into the dorms and stuff? o and if someone who is strong and fearless wants to volunteer to get rid of the rats ... ummm that would be great!

yes....all the strength required to take on a rat.....lol

i'm gonna devote my entire first month at columbia creating a supersized version of "mouse trap" so i can catch a rat in the funniest way possible, through an intricate system involving marbles, pulleys, ramps, cheese, and a cage

that would be awesome

i've never seen a rat or mouse in a dorm in all my time at Columbia. I've seen ants and bugs before, but only in the dorms that are full of complete slobs.

set up an infrared system to track all the entrances and then line them with poison
