[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Don't rank, Top 500 Public School
[] AP (place score in parentheses): US (4), Euro (4-5), Lang (likely 5), Micro (3-4), Macro (likely 4). I took Euro, Lang, and Econ just earlier this month, but those are my guesses.
[] IB (place score in parentheses): N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Gov, AP Psych, AP Lit, AP Bio, Pre-Calc, Adv. Journalism III, Sociology, Mythology, Study Hall (my counselor insisted on it...)
[] Number of other EA applicants in your school: Probably only one if any students will be applying to my schools.

Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): School newspaper (deputy editor, should note we're one of the best papers in the nation), Young Women for Change (president of our county's chapter, raised about $2500 last year, made the organization's first grant to a lesbian-focused organization), French Society (president, founder), Philosophy Society (president, founder, unfortunately we started it like last week), WILLOW (mentor, just a school club/girl power sorta thing), NHS (member), Quill and Scroll Honor Society, Key Club

[li] Summer activities: Have been attending the same journalism camp since 8th grade, ditto for debate camp except since 10th grade. This summer, I am going to a creative writing camp at Sesquehanna College (Harvard and all of those other places isn't happening for $10,000 a day), and going to farm camp to learn how to farm! [/ul]
[/li]

Writing (Write a brief description and Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays: I am a pretty good writer, so I think they'll be all right. Can't think of a topic though...
[] Teacher Recommendation #1: my AP Lang teacher, who likes me a decent amount. Guessing 8?
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: prolly will be my AP psych teacher. Apparently gives A+ recs, so a 9?
[] Counselor Rec: 8.5-9
[] Additional Rec: Might go with someone from my writing camp or debate camp, 9-10 depending on how much they ahdore me (and, if I can't find anyone, prolly won't even do it.)
[] Interview: I come off as either extremely arrogant or extremely socially awkward and occasionally very charming, so I can't tell ya how that'll go.
[li] Art Supplement: May do a piece of creative writing [/ul]
[/li]

Other[ul]
[] Intended major: If God smiles on me and UChicago opens their lovely arms to me, I'll major in Medieval Studies and minor in Creative Writing. Otherwise, some sort of history or writing major.
[] State (if domestic applicant): Midwest (being mysterious here)
[] Country (if international applicant): n/a
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: white, Jewish (but you can't tell from my name so I don't imagine it will be significantly detrimental)
[] Gender: female
[] Income Bracket: I imagine somewhere in the 180-200 K range
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): My grandfather taught at UPenn, and my dad went there but I likely won't be applying ED though. Otherwise, I am hook-less.[/ul]

My colleges: UChicago (EA), Brown, UPenn, Williams, UVA, Amherst

If you guys have any recommendations to improve or comments or whateves, let me know. Also random question: can I apply to UChicago EA and UPenn ED?

embarrassing title

Hmmm… I hope your actual college list will be longer because all I see is a bunch of reaches with a high match (UVa) thrown in. I’m not saying you’re not a qualified applicant–you are–but seriously, you need matches and safeties.

That being said, if you write truly great essays that fit the school well, I think you’ll stand a fair chance at UChicago. That really is the most important factor for them, so make sure to do your best.

Also, I believe UPenn’s ED program is restricted, meaning that no, you can’t apply anywhere else early. UChicago’s EA is unrestricted.

Your writing skills, as demonstrated by the awards, are probably good enough to land you in Chicago. And although the academics aren’t the best they can be, your ECs are great. Because you have legacy at Penn, you’d have a good shot at that school. You’d have a good shot at UVA, but the rest may be reaches. As above stated, Penn ED restricts one to only Penn.

Okay, thanks guys. I’m applying to some in-state colleges which I’m pretty sure I’ll get into.

But would you be happy going to one of these schools if all of your reaches reject you?

Brown is a pretty high reach and UPenn also a reach. Also, religion doesn’t matter for college applications, only race.

“Also, religion doesn’t matter for college applications, only race.”

Wow, you’re funny.

@OP: I wouldn’t make a laundry list if I were you. That blog is VERY interesting. I would tell you to drop most of your ECs that don’t have to do with writing and just focus on your blog and the Quill Society. But, I won’t, because it’s a radical idea (although it would be more impressive if you stumble upon amazing opportunities with connections made through your blog!).

I’m pretty sure you should expect a rejection at the following schools:
UChicago (EA), Brown, UPenn, Williams, Amherst

You have a decent chance at UVA, thought if you’re out of state then a rejection is probably likely for you

@Ghost- Yes, I would be happy at my safety/match colleges, but I definitely should be looking for some more.

Anyone else? If you think I have no chance at certain colleges, could you tell me actually why? That would be helpful.

That wasn’t a joke, it was a true statement.

You have good chances for all except maybe Brown. It’s a good possibility but no guarantees! Your commitment to things are STELLAR, and that’s a huge plus. I have a suggestion–maybe if you can, send them a collection of your journal work and the awards you won with your pieces. They’ll see your talent and it’ll be a good boost! thanks for chancing me, btw!

Reach for UVA and borderline for UChicago. However, two of my friends got deferred from Chicago, one with a 26 ACT and one with a 35 ACT and NMS so anything is possible.

Chance me! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1150854-chances-uillinois-penn-state-wisconsin-rutgers.html#post12667164</a></p>

Ahh I meant match for UVA, my bad!

I agree with many of the people that say that you need to have more safety schools. Better to have backup.

I’m a Jewish blogger too, and clearly you show a passion for writing. You also, seeing your course load and ECs, like to push yourself. This is awesome! Colleges like the ones you listed love that!

Anything is possible. Jews and writers could be in demand one year in a certain college, and another year in the next, so keep your confidence up! :)

Chance me here!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1150966-chance-me-cornell.html</a></p>

alll righty i chanced you guys back. anyone else?

bump bump bump

You have competitive scores and good ECs, especially because they clearly depict your interests. Most of the schools you listed are pretty holistic with the exception of Upenn so I’d say:

UChicago: High Match
Brown: Reach
Upenn: Reach
Williams: Match
UVA: Match
Amherst: Match

You’re missing safeties. You did mention you’re applying to some schools in-state, but make sure that you’d actually be happy going to those schools.

Chance me please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1152080-chances-top-colleges.html</a></p>

Uchicago is definately not any kind of “match” for him, though he is certainly competative. Score and GPA aren’t particularly high. Good ECs, i think you will get into some.

Nice title!
This is really good, I feel like you will have a good chance at getting into UPENN and U chicago, it seems like you have the act for it and im sure you will improve!! I dont know much about the others.
