How much on an impact does the essay have on the overall score?

What would be the score in the Math section if you miss one multiple choice?

the essay takes about 30-40% of your writing score.

that depends on test to test, but generally if the test's easy, then you get 780 or something. If the test is hard, the 800 cut is about 1 questions(but i never saw 800 cut under 1 Qs)

30%

On the old SAT, -1 would usually get you an 800. On today's SAT, you're lucky if you get above a 770. It's been as low as 760 this testing season.

I think there have only been 4 test dates with -1 = 800 on the new SAT administration (May 2005, January 2006, May 2006, October 2006, May 2007)

The most recent curves, if you're interested, for -1 were:

Jan 07 - 780
March 07 - 780
May 07 - 800
June 07 - 790
Oct 07 - 780
Nov 07 - 770
Dec 07 - 780 (grrrr THIS WAS ME)
Jan 08 - 790
March 08 - 770
May 08 - 780
June 08 - 790 (I think)
Oct 08 - 780
Nov 08 - 760 (ouch!)
Dec 08 - 770
Jan 09 - ?

I'm just scared that -1 is going to be 760 again. I am trying to get 780-800 and it would suck to get a 760 for only one wrong
