RC vs LC

I'm applying to Fordham EA. I have everything ready to go, but I can't decide if I want RH or LC. I won't be able to visit before I apply. Both offer my major. If I apply and get into LC, would it be easy to transfer to RH before I start? Or would it be easier the other way around? Thanks!

Was waiting for someone more knowledgeable to chime in, but since no one has answered yet, I’ll take a shot at answering.

It seems to me from posts I have read on this forum that although it is not difficult to transfer between campuses, housing is somewhat more available at the Rose Hill campus that at Lincoln Center.

So if you definitely need housing, it would be safer to apply to Lincoln Center and see if you can get it there, then you may have a good chance at getting housing again should you later wish to change to Rose Hill.

Advice: don’t go in planning an internal transfer. You don’t need to visit to get a general feel for the colleges’ differences. LC is in Midtown, consists of one dorm and one academic building, and attracts an artsier, somewhat more liberal, and somewhat more diverse student body. RH is in the Bronx, has a lovely green campus, and offers college-y things like sports, bars, and business majors.

Do you like skyscrapers, professionals, and tourist traps, or do you like low-rises, the working class, and bodegas?

If you truly can’t decide, play eeny-meeny-miny-moe.

The two campuses are different in culture as well. LC is more artsy and urban. Rose Hill a classic college campus. Those at LC usually love it, but its a different cup of tea for those at Rose Hill.

My kid was at Rose Hill. And took classes at LC several times, using the RamVan. A valuable experience.

My personal preference is Rose Hill. I like the bigger campus, gothic buildings, lawns and trees and athletic facilities/sporting events. The Metro North stops at Fordham’s gate and whisks you to mid town at Grand Central in 15-20 minutes, running until 100am. Clean and safe.

The RamVan runs between campuses all hours.

Rose Hill is about 5,000 undergrads. LC is about 1900.

Its up to you. Good luck.

I am at RH but here are some of the differences I know (including some stereotypes).

Campus - RH is a traditional, larger campus in the Bronx and LC campus is a city block on the upper west side of Manhattan. RH has easy access to Manhattan, LC is in a great location in Manhattan.

Size - RH has about 5700 undergrads and about 1000 grad students; LC has about 1800 undergrads and a lot of grad students (law school, graduate b-school, education, social service)

Dorms: LC has one suite/apartment style dorm building - moving off campus near the university would be very expensive; RH has a variety of housing options – typically the first two years students have double rooms and then move to suite style apartments or off campus.

Student Body - The stereotype is that RH has the more conservative student body since the business school is here, but I have found a great mix of people here; LC has the theater and dance schools so has a more artsy crowd overall.

Sports - Sports aren’t the biggest thing at Fordham but teams are getting better. All sports are at RH.

I looked at both campuses and immediately knew RH was what I wanted in my college experience. To me RH is a great mix of urban and a traditional location. I love being able to get into Manhattan but I also love coming back to the peace of the RH campus. But I would never presume to know what is the right fit for you. If you can’t visit, at least look at the school website for information and photos.
