RD 1 Decision + Stats Thread

Got the letter in the mail today.

Hmm.. mine will probably come tomorrow then.. we're not very far from gainesville

My son's RD 1 decision is on the website today. It had fallen through the cracks (through no fault of the people at UF), and many thanks to the great people in the admissions office who got it processed!

Accepted!

3.6uw gpa/4.41w gpa/1560 old SAT/2370 new SAT/NMS Semi-finalist (hopefully finalist)/OOS/caucasian male/Debate Team co-captain/volunteer research project at Johns Hopkins/2 college level engineering classes/lots of volunteer hours nursing home and tutoring

Happy parents in Maryland are doing backflips!

got letter in the mail today too! from SC

gnusasaurus, where else did your son apply? i am glad to see other students with similar stats to my daughter's, i.e. old SAT 1520, new SAT 2280, weighted GPA 4.49, NMSF (hopefully finalist), etc. choosing UF. What is offered for OOS NMSF's? Do they get a break with tuition similar to our Bright Futures? Just curious about OOS NMSF's are treated.

er, tennischica...both of the people who got deferred were in-state, not OOS. And since there are only a few hundred National Merit Scholars at Florida and a few thousand OOS students, most of them are not NMS.

arilmada - OOS NMFs get the same package as in-state finalists, except with an added tuition waiver to give them in-state tuition. I think the package for my year (I started in 2004) was $4875 per semester plus tuition reduced to in-state rates.

whoops my bad :P i just figured since florida's overwhelmingly in-state they only take NMS scholars from other states. i also heard from the admissions office that most out of state students had to meet the honors college stats in order to have a shot at admission :/

Grr... I still did not receive my letter and I'm in central florida...

still no letter

Call them man. Just call.

rejected, damnit

Damn..maguo1, that's a pretty stellar resume'. Where else are you looking at?

You have Asian numbers with Black Extracurriculars and leadership. Pretty impressive/cool...

maguo1, you probably got your acceptance quickly because you are a national merit finalist. i think that's an automatic admit.

Oh really. That's why UF has so many National Merits. My letter was also signed by teh "Superior Student Recruiter". I think that might have something to do with it.
Well, juicebox, I applied to Harvard (deferred), MIT, Princeton, Duke, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, U of Mich (accepted), Penn State (accepted), Wash U (st. louis). I know its a long list, but a lot are common apps.
I also like your description of having asian numbers and black extracurriculars.

And if you want to see a truly remarkable student, look at apfreak in post 33. Though his numbers aren't "Asian", he shows some true heart and dedication.

Nobody else here got admitted in late Feb/early March?

Deferred
in state

Counselor Rec: counselor is a very prominent figure at my school, so I guess it was good

ECs: 3 Varsity sports, total of 6 letters, several clubs, head of yearbook, in school work experience

I was pretty suprised when I was deferred, actually, as was my counselor. However, I received one day in school suspension my junior year, which I think killed me on all my choices.

wow. LOL. the heck with decorum,
