RD 2013 Anxiety Thread

Your book response was adorable! :)

neethus, I love the language/word choice in your essays. They're so beautiful! And I agree that lunch should be done :) Hopefully, Barnard sees in our applications how much we need to be there so that can happen.

Thanks etched :) I slaved over my essays (although surprisingly, the daily one (band) came strikingly easy for me). My common app though took FOREVER... I wrote a different one, and then completely trashed it, and wrote this one.

Gah, I hope the adcom likes it.

Yeah, I think that my Common App essay was probably the strongest part of my app. I died writing it, though. Seriously, it was like pulling teeth. But it ended up good (I think?) so whatever.

Lunch with the Anxiety Crew, haha, that would be fun. :)

Lunch would be awesome! Now I have even more incentive to want to get in. I didn’t think that was possible!

Like neethus1 I'm hesitant to post mine publicly but if anyone really wants to read them PM me and I'll send them.

Mmmf. Frankly, I don't care if someone tries to recycle mine. It's too late to apply this year, and most colleges change supplement their questions every year anyway.

Besides, if they're stupid enough to try that then they're probably too stupid to get into Barnard. :)

I agree with firefly. :)

I hesitate to post mine as well, but anyone can PM me if they're interested in reading.

I've found myself overanalyzing EVERYTHING in regards to Barnard admissions lately. Like they added something they didn't receive on my fin aid portal on Friday. My dad faxed the document on Saturday. I know that they probably just haven't documented it yet, but I keep feeling like the fact that they have not emailed me in response to not having it means I'm rejected. It's the scariest thing in the world!

I know how you feel! I felt the same way lol, they sent me an email about my stuff being missing, I almost had a heart attack! I found out my noncustodial was in the hospital so I had to fill it out for her to the best of my knowledge :(

Thank goodness I was on top of things and found her taxes and stuff or else I would have been scrwd!

another way to pass the time: what was your favorite thing(s) about the campus?
i really liked the underground tunnel system. i thought it was pretty cool..i like the thought that in winter when its snowing you don't even have to step outside :)

My favorite part of campus is the quad for sure (the residential part) I was there in the springtime and it was so serene and beautiful there!! Ahhh <3 Barnard.

Does anyone's check list still register as not having recieved some things? I haven't gotten an e-mail asking for stuff, so I figure they've got it (especially since one is my SAT II #2 and they've already got my SAT II #1), but...should I e-mail? :|

^ Me too!!!

I don't understand how they can have my SAT #1 and not my SAT #2, considering they were both on the SAME score report, lol. I think it's just a mistake. They said that they WILL notify us... but they haven't... so I guess they have everything.

I just want to reaffirm the fact that I'm absolutely crazy (about Barnard). I figure, from last year's timeline, that some decisions may be received next Friday and am considering, starting next Friday, signing out early every day before my mom gets home to check the mail. Is this a bad move? I just don't want my mom to see before me because I want to be able to read the letter for myself with no one trying to interfere. And I get out of school so late that she's home and rummaging by the time I come home.

I don't think there was anywhere on campus that really impressed me (Yale, Bryn Mawr, and Wellesely spoiled me), but I guess the quad. But honestly, it's not the campus that I love about this school. :)

mp153--I guess it depends what your last period of the day is?

^ It's a city campus, so it's not really that pretty. But I love the campus because although it's in the middle of the city, it seems really tight knit. Plus, the underground tunnel system is AWESOME!

mp, if they don't mail decisions out on the same timeline as last year, you might have a prolonged freakout by leaving early for many days. So, if you're going to do it, be sure that you - or someone else, it doesn't really matter - calls them, so you know they're out there and not just following last year's pattern. Does that make sense? I think I put waaayy too many unnecessary words in that explanation. Basically, I'm saying do what's best for your sanity and, if it's by getting the mail before your mom, by all means do so :)

And unfortunately I've never visited so I don't have a favorite part :[ Hopefully, I'll be able to see it as an admitted student! crosses fingers

I can't believe it's so soon...

^ yes, that (the tight knitness) is what I was refering to under the category of "not the campus" :)

My favorite part is EVERYTHING. Though, a lot of the time, they close off the Sulzburger basement from the other parts of the tunnel which makes life really difficult :( I don't know if they do that all year, though, or just summer, so don't take my word for it.

And my last period of the day is Yearbook next Friday, so my missing it wouldn't be a huge deal. I just really need to keep my sanity, even though it's just not good for me to do this kind of thing.

Does anybody know what Barnard's record is about financial aid? Do they tend to be generous? Because that could be a factor for me if I get in, unfortunately...
