hey, good idea...

I just got the email back from them with regards to the notification date!!!! That's what the email says:
"we will be sending all of the decisions on the last week of March." which is pretty vague...if it's the beginning of the week of the end?

Hey everyone, I've been watching this thread for a while now and I was wondering - are any of you from california, preferably around the bay area? I really want to know how many they usually accept from the west coast.

foreverpetals: I'm from California - San Diego! I believe 13% accepted to Barnard are west coasters.

Hey foreverpetals! I'm from the Bay Area as well. I've been on and off on this thread for a while but have been stalking it much more avidly as the date gets closer! :P

Only a tiny number of gals get accepted from the south. :( College doesn't like us, apparently.

Aww, squaregirl :( Maybe only a few apply from the South and there's a high acceptance rate for Southern gals? :)

foreverpetals - I'm from the Bay Area.. but i don't know what their acceptance rate is for west coasters.

cantochikk- i also applied to cornell.. but i highly doubt that i will be getting in

lesleyG - wait.. when did you get the email? i didnt get one.... :(

Squaregirl, I don't think the acceptance ratio is lower for girls from the South....I think fewer apply from here. Take heart!

I hope! :)

cantochikk- I flaked and didn't apply last minute! lmao, but I visited and I realized that I'm tired of the cold! I wouldn't be able to survive there = /

to carothetaro
I emailed them first asking about notification date so they emailed me back. no worries

simply lily -

GPA something like a 3.8 (I don't honestly know), SATs: M620 CR750 W800, Lit 760 Bio 680... I'm so negative because I'm a junior, graduating early, which colleges don't love at all :/ I don't think it's going to happen so I'm trying not to psych myself out even a little.

Hey everyone!

I applied RD to Barnard, and I am sure that I am not the only gal here who is so anxious to hear back that it makes her nauseous!!

I read on a different Barnard thread that Barnard sends out "likely" letters. I checked the website, but aside from the Admissions Board saying that they are busy reviewing applications, I cannot find anything about the current state of the admission process.

Can anyone shed some light on Barnard's method of informing us about our admissions?

Thanks so much!

All you ladies sound like passionate and determined people! Good luck to you all!

Hi 2013ers! I’m a current student and I’ll try to answer as many questions as I can.

@winothepooh - I am not aware of any likely letters that Barnard sends out. It does, however, notify all non-international applicant by snail-mail. It's going to be a large express envelope if it's a yes. Barnard notifies in waves, so some people last year got their responses very, very late while others got the reply early.

@Bustles – Try not to count yourself out too early! Some Barnard women I know came from very unique academic backgrounds and they got in. Barnard admissions is very good about being thorough. I’m sure you’ll find the place for you. Remember, there isn’t –one- college that’s perfect for you, there are several, even when it doesn’t seem like it. Most people love whatever college they end up in. :)

@inasummertown: I know plenty of girls from the South who are in Barnard! Yes, northerners and Californians are more common, but being from the south might be an advantage. There are fewer applicants from the south and Barnard does try to get some geographic diversity. Good luck!

@the Barnard, NYU, Cornell, Smith discussion: I applied to all of the above except Smith last year. :) I ended up getting into NYU and Barnard but not Cornell. Since I had to choose between Barnard and NYU and visited both extensively (I’m a New Yorker), here are my two cents: the atmosphere is –very- different.
NYU is very integrated into the city and to me, appears to be a school of strong individuals. Here it is a little similar to Barnard, where women are encouraged to grow as individuals. However, Barnard focuses on forming a community and establishing a family-like atmosphere on campus. Barnard women get to explore and grow using the resources of all of Columbia University, but the college itself is always very tight-knit and caring. NYU is a bastion of freedom and anonymity, which unfortunately comes with more bureaucracy. Barnard is in a quieter and more academic neighborhood than NYU (think mini college town), which is located in a fairly loud and busy (but trendy) area.
Ultimately, just visit, talk to students, and you’ll be able to feel the right place for you. Admitted student days are essential. Of course, although this will be an upsetting truth, NYU financial aid is comparatively poor, which is why I would suggest visiting before you get your financial aid package so you can evaluate both without thinking about numbers.

@all: Good luck ‘13ers!

A Persona- Thanks for the info! And you're right about visiting the campus thing, I visited Cornell in December and although it has a BEAUTIFUL campus, it's too cold and isolated! I want to be in a city (aka. Barnard!) but also be surrounded by powerful, and intelligent young women like myself! After visiting, I loved Barnard! It all depends on your impression of the campus, it's all up to you! :)

A Persona - A second a heartfelt thanks. Barnard seems like a piece of heaven. However, I now officialy discussed the topic and heard enough to be hugely disappointed if I'm rejected. Hmmm...

etched and firefly:
see this is why I can't wait to apply to Barnard. The girls are so much more welcoming (I am assuming this forum is an accurate portrayal of personalities since everyone here applied :) ) -- so much better than the typical online forum.

squaregirl (and others):
on page 6 of this document, there is a chart with the percentages for geographic diversity. I live in Austin, TX so I would be a Southern applicant as well.

I live in ATX too! =D I'm hoping that because we're a minority, we'll have a better shot. :)

Also, unrelated, but - I got into Smith!!! Here's hoping Barnard is as kind.

Austinites ftw :D

and to squaregirl - YAY :D I'm so psyched for you! You've been so anxious these past few days. :)
