@mowntaindrew-- You run? So do I. I’ve talked to the track/XC coach a lot, he’s a good guy. Hope you get in!

If anyone is interested, I talked to Geneseo and they said that all letters regardless of what they said were mailed by 3/1. So keep your fingers crossed!

I have been reading this thread for days and finally decided to register so I could comment. Waiting for a response has been nerve racking to say the least. My daughter applied in November. All of her friends have heard from Geneseo on Monday, neighbors included. Everyone of them got a Spring term deferment. She has hasn’t heard anything and I just check today’s mail and still nothing. She doesn’t know anyone who got accepted for Fall or got denied. I am also feeling the denial letters are the last to be received, but we live on Long Island and if they were mailed on the first, they should have already arrived. Please post if you hear anything.

We had the discussion about Geneseo’s admit and yield rates a couple years ago. I don’t know why they continue to word the acceptance letter the way they do. Students who are bright enough to get into Geneseo are bright enough to figure out the truth. For the record, 9,164 students applied to Geneseo last year and 4,184 recieved acceptance letters. That’s a 46% admit rate. Of those who were admitted 997 enrolled, a yield rate of 24%. It will probably be around the same this year.

Geneseo was definitely a reach school for me! I Just found this thread, I was rejected in early February (date at the top of my rejection letter was January 29, but I didn’t receive it till about Feb. 1) The letter stated something about a TOP - Transitional Opportunity Program, as another option for admission

I spoke to Geneseo admissions today. They said they will not pull off the select wailist until about May 15. So I would have to deposit at another college. This kinda stinks.

GCMom that does stink!

We called yesterday to find out why we haven’t heard and admission said they mailed her response out on Tuesday, March 5th. It seems admission says different things but my daughter said they were very nice. So hopefully we will hear by the weekend. Good luck to all those still waiting.

I think it was a postage issue because they told me all notices were sent the same day
@mikeftw I’m a hurdler and I’m really excited to run there next year

Finally got it. It was returned for postage. Wait listed.

My daughter was wait listed until Spring as well. Did your letter mention the Italy program?

When will these schools have an online posting of acceptances and rejections so everyone finds out the same time? Waiting six extra days was torturous. Anyone know how many people typically make it off the wait list?

@sawdog34 I wish i knew how many came off the waitlist. If you find out please share. @caligirl61 yes my daughter letter mentioned the Siena Bridge program.

Happy going to be a physics teacher I don’t know if I’m attending yet though.

Oh, by the way, my mom wrote me a parent recommendation. And we got a response saying thank you and we will give you a positive recommendation to the admissions committe or something. That letter postmarked feb 15. I received my admissions letter on march 2nd.

Has anyone accepted?

We are still waiting to see if we will get any Merit Awards. My son is also applying for the Edgar Fellows program, which would give some additional funds. Right now, between the 7 schools both of my boys applied to for this year, Geneseo would cost the most. The one that is looking at Geneseo is also looking at U of R and Clarkson. Both of those schools would be at least $3000 a year less than Geneseo with their financial aid packages. My other son also got better packages from SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Oswego and Ithaca College. We are still waiting on one from Canisius. If Geneseo comes up with $3000 a year, they are probably still in the running from my son’s perspective. We are visiting there again on April 4th. Hope we know Merit Amount by then.

I hope your daughter is offered an acceptance. I know this school is high on your/her list! Good Luck!

We will be up there on April 4 as well!

Since I have been through this process I figured let me offer some advice…

Be careful with using the financial package as the only determining factor in choosing a school. Remember, many of these financial packages include scholarships that require minimum GPAs to guarantee the aid over 4 years. The first couple of years away at college are difficult for many students and it is amazing how many A students struggle to keep a 3.0 GPA. The private could actually cost you allot more in the long run if your child cannot maintain the minimum GPA requirements.

There is also a reason why Geneseo is at the top of every Best Value, Best Public, Best Undergraduate Teaching college publication…more students graduate on time, more students go on to graduate school (over 40%), more students study abroad during their college years than any other SUNY campus (38%), service learning experiences are a part of the Geneseo experience for most students, you are not just a number at Geneseo the faculty are committed to each student’s success…

Geneseo actually did cost a little bit more than some of the privates we looked at but the extra 2k was well worth it!!!

Best of luck!!

Hello Fatherli,

First of all, thank you for all the information you provided on Geneseo. It’s been very helpful. I agree with you that it’s not all about price. If my son decides on Geneseo, I think he will be going there either way (with or without more merit aid). I really like Geneseo because of it’s size, commitment to students, etc. But Geneseo says that they consider U of R one of their peer institutions, and some people would consider U of R even more selective/prestigious. That’s not necessarily important to me. I want him to go wherever he feels he has the best fit. Certainly Geneseo has a very good reputation for Physics majors. I would just expect that if Geneseo considers U of R to be a peer institution, they would try to remain competitively priced with their peer schools. Clarkson even had a better financial package, but he doesn’t think that’s some place he wants to seriously consider. It’s between Geneseo and U of R. We have our re-visits coming up soon, and then we’ll see. My guess is Geneseo, but I will work with him to make sure he arrives at the best decision. My other son has decided on Ithaca College over SUNY Oneonta even though Ithaca was a little more, but Ithaca was his #1 choice. Again, thank you for all your information.
