RD Acceptances

It's Gaypril. The pride alliance put them up.

Are they a very prominent group on campus?

No more so than any of the other clubs. Why do you ask?

I have never heard of it before.

Is anyone involved in the Budo club and Meditation sessions. Son is into this. He really appreciated seeing a Tibetan monk on campus.....the mandela paintings are amazing....anyone take this course?

One of my friends does the budo club and really likes it. I know a few seniors who are doing the mandela class w/ the monk and they love it.

cz-that is something for my son to look forward to.....

passed by the admissions house on Main St...wow...looking good!!

Ya, I haven't been in the new admissions building, but my mom has and she said it was amazing! I might have to drop by some time to just look around at it.

cz-did you mom tell you how many applicants they had this year?
...and.....all the cars parked on Main St....are those all student cars? A freshman can have a car right? Do most students bring one? Do they buy a sticker or park elsewhere (like on main St)?
Toodles........

I don't know the exact number, but there was an increase for both early decision and regular decision. Yes, all students can have cars, and not everyone brings them. The freshman parking lot is across from O'dells. I think most of the cars parked on main street is the admissions staff and adminstration...but i'm not sure. Students who have cars on campus must get a little sticker.

jelomom - how did your DS like the history class at HWS? What did you do while he was there?

Hi rubyred-

I didn't go today, my ds and dh did. It was a valuable trip all around. He attended the class (Medieval European) and then spoke with Prof Mcnally (sp) who gave him some very good things to think about. Also, she was honest and forthcoming with him about the History dept. at HWS compared to the departments at his other choices.

He was given a couple hosts to dine with for lunch and the conversation was informative. He said the food was great! They said that the kids were out all over the grounds on this beautiful day which was great to see. Of course, the majority of the time he will spend on campus will not be the spring time, rather the winter months.

Fortunately, we are able to add little bits to his knowledge base on HWS over these weeks because we can travel to the school. I think that this will help him to make a decision.

Did you look at the online chat this evening? My son was on for a bit and then I was on asking parent questions. Oh well.....It's a mother thing

Gosh- I forgot all about that tonight! Was there anything of interest?

It was typical......lots of small questions and just a few interesting ones....lots of chit chat. Son got a few questions answered. I learned a few things. Have to use a mircofridge in rooms?? (va or cz care to respond).... Pres. of HWS will be there Saturday to meet all.... Something like 250 students already signed up.... My son now wants to go Saturday as I said in an earlier post. I will see what I do b/c of my feet situation(DH is working).... I read the Pathways program is really a good thing to get into at HWS. Sounds like you have to sign a contract.... Shuttle Van times for off-campus eats like to Wegmans noted; the shuttle runs till something like 2AM.... All dorms typically locked; student gets 2 keys, 1 for dorm and 1 for room.... Bunch of prospective students talked about how they hear what a 'parteeeee' school HWS was and that kind of surprised my son. He is a rather quiet studious student who enjoys gatherings of small groups. He is very involved in his clubs at school. I told him there will definately be something for him. I told him eveyone is different. His high school friends are pretty much like him; involved in Habitat etc. He is so into volunteering and nature and 'cleaning up the environment'. He loves his sword collection and always thought he would enjoy Fencing and HWS has Fencing. He will most likely find a 'subs-free' group to hang out with. Anyway, fairly good talk with some insight.
Are you going Saturday?? Did I already ask??

to va or cz - what do you know about chi phi frat and druid society. They both sound very interesting. What is the rush week like there on campus and when do students get involved, is it 2nd yr and on? Are either of you involved in the Pathways program? Who is this Mr. Murphy everyone was talking about on the chat site?.. something about HWS Careers Office or something?

Oh jelo - also found out North and South dorms are A/C'd.

Ruby-

Thanks for the update on the chat. I will be interested in hearing more about the Pathways program you mentioned.

We will not be able to attend events this weekend.........we will checking out another accepted student weekend. I think we will have to consider the one scheduled for the very last weekend!!!!!!!!

As far as the drinking goes, (and preppie too)..........you know, I graduated from college 30 years ago and the questions were all the same then. I haven't visited a college forum yet that the question of drinking wasn't a concern.........doesn't matter the prestige of the school.

If a kid wants to go to college to party, they are going to find a way to do it on ANY campus. What is important to me is whether there is enough challenge academically, personally, physically, and socially that a student who wants to grow and discover new interests and facets to their person has a safe and enriching environment.

Hey, my ds took fencing years ago, and thought that club looked interesting too.

I don't know much about the frats but I know that you can pledge sophomore year. Bob Murphy is amazing! He helps with the pathways program, which helps with career choices and ect.

CZ - has your Mom mentioned how the many decisions have come in so far? That would be interesting to hear about.
BTW - what clubs are you involved in on campus?
Yesterday we went to HWS and put in the deposit for the fall. Son is set.

She said that they'll find out the numbers on Saturday (there is another open house that day) or Sunday. I know there was an increase for the number of applications in both early decision and regular, so she thinks that the class of 2010 will be bigger than my class.

I'm involved in cross country, club ice hockey, and club field hockey, and at times I go to bible study (I'm a big sports junkie).
