GCMom,
I was in a similar situation a few years ago. One child was a junior at G’burg and another was a high school senior who had made G’burg their first choice. And got waitlisted. It was really unfair as the younger student was the stronger student. When I was finally able to get an explanation it came down to dollars. If we had not required any financial aid the younger would have been gladly admitted. The younger one ended up at a better school academically and has loved it from day one. We say now that it happened for a reason but I know your pain. It will work out, best of luck to your daugter!

@beenthereanddone wow…very similar. It could have came down to the financial aid. My son did get a good package and my daughter is definitely the stronger student. Instead of wait listing her they should have just given me a bad package, that I could have handled I know she met the academic requirements and then some. Its almost insulting. I’m still waiting for my letter but I’ve kinda lost hope.

Its weird we never heard anything yet. Good news though is we heard from Geneseo a strong state college here in NY. They have accepted her!

The situation as I read it with Getttyburg is that they agree to meet 100% of family need. So while they were OK with one sibling they might not have had the money to allow both to attend. It goes against that whole “Gettyburg family” story they sell us and in fact no consideration is given for siblings being legacies there, even though the tour guides tell you it counts, it doesn’t. Best advice I can offer is get looking and relooking, there are plenty of other great schools out there and sooner you and your daughter find one, the quicker the hurt will subside. When one door closes and one opens… Best of luck!

GCMom415, That is excellent news about Geneseo! Really, your daughter should be thrilled. My D (on LI) received her Waitlisting letter today from Gettysburg. She is very upset. She was hoping for a little good news this week. She will pull the application. I don’t see any point in staying on a waitlist unless its your absolute dream school.

Wait listed oh well I have another shot at Gettysburg now

@beenthere I understand Gettysburg’s position about the aid. I feel lucky my son is there and am thankful. If it is about the aid I really would have preferred a bad financial aid package for her instead of a waitlist or rejection. Our school has naviance and parents will see that a girl with her STATS was not admitted and it wont make sense. Its very strange not to have heard a thing.

GCmom, you likely have expectations especially if your son is a student there, so I would certainly not lose hope until you hear what happens. Acceptance with money, acceptance without it, wait-list or rejection, mail is mail and may just be slow. Though your daughter should be ecstatic about the other acceptance, Gettysburg may still bring good news. Or not. I’ve had one rejection, one wait-list, one acceptance in which the school asked for a yearly sum comparable to my custodial parent’s annual income, and a fantastic package from Gettysburg thus far. If your worries do come true however, just know that it is a largely random process and more doors will (and have) opened.

Feel proud, mmmico

@mmmico Congrats on your Gettysburg acceptance! Its really a great place! Its a beautiful school. Good Luck!

I got waitlisted today through an email since I am an international student and it would take some time to mail a letter. I got into Franklin and Marshall though with sufficient aid for me to attend so I don’t feel hopeless like I did last year when I got one rejection after another. Congrats to all who was accepted! It would have perhaps been too difficult for me to choose college if I were to be accepted here as well, haha!

For those who haven’t heard anything yet, don’t give up hope! A girl I know just got her acceptance letter today. She lives in PA

@testbulk wow thats weird.

Just a question for anyone who was accepted…were you able to register for GAD on mygettysburg account?

GCmom, My D was Waitlisted via a letter in the US Mail rec’d on LI yesterday. When I log into MyGettysburg, then try to Register for GAD, it reads:
Name: $user.fullName
There are no events you can register to.

So I would say if you are able to register for GAD, Maybe your D’s letter is MIA. If so, call the school.

No…we cant register…so I am thinking that may be a sign. I didnt get mail yet.

Got mail…and nothing…this is very strange.

DS received “Waitlist”, in today’s mail. We live in California. It came by regular snailmail.

Did anyone else not hear from Gettysburg or is it just me…? LOL

Lol internationals got an email yesterday, so it’s just you :P

GCmom415, I think you should email or call admissions. Seems like you should have received a response by now. Good luck with everything!
