RD applicants: have you heard back yet?

If you applied regular decision to Bard, have you received anything in the mail yet?

na...nothin...no emails...no snail mails...nothing...lol...lets just wait...

i haven't heard anythin yet... hehe

My son just got a letter from the tennis coach encouraging him to consider playing. We're laughing about it as he's so not a serious tennis player. Still, it's nice to get mail!

Nothing yet.

Bard has not spoken to me

me neither... did you guys get asked for interviews? i didnt, and im a pretty strong applicant so i thought it was odd. i literally havent gotten so much as spam from them so far.

I have not.

The only thing I've received from them was a breif letter stating that they would be reviewing my application in the upcomming weeks.

I don't think they write very much. My son was admitted EA, and has not heard a peep since! His other two EA schools have been inundating him with material.

Maybe there's a paper shortage, lol. Kind of strange.

When I got in EA I got a short letter. A month or so later I got a letter saying they needed something additional for financial aid.

Everyone talks about the huge packets they get when they get accepted other places, but Bard only sends a small letter. Weird.

It's especially wierd considering that they are a college known for their writing program. Slightly ironic!

Moonmaid: how well known is union for economics and international studies

I think they send out those odd emails about athletic teams just so they can track your comments on CC....I'm joking! My D got one about a sport she's never played, never listed on her ECs, though it would be funny to watch her try.

I won't say what sport because someone might be reading this....

Switch, I'm not sure I understand your question.

i mean.. how reputed is their economics department

I have no idea!

And I don't think my S will be going to Bard anyway. He just got offered a nice scholarship at Tulane and he likes the school alot.

Bard has not really made a case for itself with him, not at all. Even Geneseo sent him a t-shirt and a lot of info about their polysci and pre-law program, as did Tulane and GWU.

Hah! My daughter hasn't gotten anything from Bard since the very nice EA letter. No T-shirt. Nothing. But I found nothing odd or wrong with that, given the nature of the Bard students and the school's philosophy. She didn't either.

That hasn't knocked it off the top of my D's list. The only thing that will do that is an insufficient financial aid package, but then that's really what'll knock it off her Dad's list...it'll always be #1 in my DD's heart.

Proud Dad, if you don't mind, what were your daughter's stats? What other colleges did she apply to, and what attracted her to Bard?

Well, what stats are important to you at a school that makes SATs optional? Are you still waiting to hear? (She is above Bard's quoted "average" SAT, FWIW.) GPA: 3.95/4.59 from a rural public HS with mostly honors curriculum and taking one, two, or three APs each of the last three years. Top 10% of class for sure but maybe not the top 10 that gets scholarship from Bard equal to her in-state tuition. Her HS will usually send about two-to-four kids to HYP each year.

What interested her was the ability to pursue a liberal art curriculum and theater at the same time without a conservatory-type concentration or time-wasting auditions prior to admission. Bard's curriculum of concentration, moderation, and philosophy of student's controlling their own course choices and direction is what appealed to her most, along with their emphasis on the arts. She's a good student with a wide variety of interests and wants to be exposed to new interests and ideas in a flexible environment. She's not looking at any large schools other than two of our state U's (and they're not that large) and one small state college that's as close to offering what she wants as any public ever could get. She's been accepted at one very selective small LAC (waiting on FA), one selective private U with a merit and scholarship FA offer, and still waiting on decisions from four schools including the three state schools, two of which are very selective. Does that help?
