AA, I applied Early Action but I still haven't gotten an interview yet. I emailed the ASC (thats who I should contact right?) and they told me no interviewer was assigned for my school. Is there any way I can possibly still have an interview?
...or maybe is it because my address isn't in the same neighborhood as my school. i live an hour away.

ruey--Different ASC regions have different rules. Apparently, your region has people assigned to schools. If there's no one who covers your school, you're apparently out of luck. My region works differently, so I really can't comment

AA, sorry bout the interview question, that was dumb. I was still wondering about why my friend and I would not both get an interview when we go to the same school. And as for the question about my interview conversation, she asked me about books and classes and those conversations rose up as a result.

Liberty--Please start reading this thread at the beginning, it explains how interviews are assigned, although different regions have different processes.

I have yet to get an interview, either. I haven't done any interviews yet, and I'm nervous for any that come my way! And yes, there are only 18 days left!!!

AA, I had my Yale interview a few weeks ago.

Although it went well and the interviewer covered all the important questions, we did not discuss my ECs that much.

I only mentioned one of my ECs - the one I am most passionate about. I did not mention social work or work experience.

Further, I wanted to mention the things I could not mention on my application.

Do you think applicants should talk about as many ECs as possible (to help corroborate the things in the app) and focus on things that are already on the app?

I tried to cover things that showed who was I as a person.

AdmissionsAddict, I recently checked my Eli status and it says I'm missing my school report. When I went to my school counselor, though, they said they sent it as a package with my transcript and teacher rec's. Should I bring a second copy (in a sealed envelope) to my interview?

bluecow--The interviewer is some random Yale alum who is volunteering. I think the admissions office would be suspicious of something that went through them. The report needs to be resent through the traditional channels and I do it ASAP. Maybe your counselor can call Yale about faxing it or sending it as email attachment to save time.

My interview experience was a little awkward.
The interviewer was pretty straightforward in saying that the interview was the least important part of the application and was really supposed to get the applicant excited about Yale over their other college choices.

It was kind of weird, obsessing over everything about Yale for years and then being asked if I had any questions about Yale and not being asked to talk about myself or my interests.

Thanks you so much Admissions Addict for all of the tips and advice! I followed your tips and aced my interview, it was much easier than I expected it to be. I would have been a wreck if I had not prepared, so thanks so much again!

Well, my interview is tomorrow, my ASC called me today and set it up. She had sent me an email but alas, it went unheeded in my spam folder. Thankfully she was kind enough to call and try to set up an interview for me. I have to remember to thank her regarding that. Reading this thread has really put me at ease and I hope that my interview is as good as some of the other people in this thread!
My alum sounds very enthusiastic and gregarious, a lot like me! I have a feeling it will be a good conversation.
Wish me luck!

Lesson from cliffahn: Check your email including spam folder regularly! I suspect dozens if not hundreds of applicants slip through the alumni interviewing cracks because they don't check email.

I actually told my interviewer that people told me the interview was not that important. My situation is so much more mortifying than yours. I don't know if this made you feel better. Eh.

Random question for you and since I'm not sure if you're familiar with QuestBridge or not, it may be something you can't answer, but...

My daughter was not matched with Yale. She didn't rank any other schools. While Yale will automatically put her in the RD pile, we have no way of knowing WHY she wasn't matched. We've heard of some students from previous years as well as this one who were told that they weren't matched b/c their income level was too high, in some cases had a higher than $0 EFC. While we submitted the CSS Profile, I have no idea what our EFC was or if this was even a factor in the decision. Her stats were nearly perfect (2380 no superscoring), 750 Math I, 760 Lit. She is the valedictorian 1/171 with a 4.0 unweighted GPA (our school doesn't weight)...Mention this b/c I don't think it was the stats that kept her out. Obviously I know there's more to it than stats, but we felt like she had strong essays, we know she had wonderful recommendations. Her EC activities are as strong as they can be for our community. They don't give lots of opportunity for stellar ECs, but she's taken advantage of almost all opportunities available...

My question is do you know if Yale ever sends "likely letters" to QuestBridge applicants who were deferred? We don't want to be unrealistic in her chances to be accepted and since she was not matched, we must come up with a "plan B", including applying to more schools.

If you have any insight, it would be appreciated.

PS...I just realized this thread is not "admissions advice" but "interview advice"...I apologize.

hmm...I think you mentioned earlier that the deadline for interview reports was December 1st but I was recently contacted by an interviewer and set up a meeting at his office in the medical facility in which he works on the 8th. My Eliaccount indicates that I am an early action applicant, should I interpret this to mean that I have been deferred?

You should interpret this to mean that your interviewer is clueless about the deadline for interview reports. Interviewers don't know who has been accepted, deferred, or rejected until after the applicants know.

I applied to Yale through SCEA in Canada. It's 11 days till decision and Yale still hasn't contacted me for an interview!! Does that mean I'm rejected? Did all of you get an interview and what does it mean if you don't?
