RD Applicants: You are screwed.

:D Freshman Applications Soar at Northwestern - 54% in Three Years, NewsCenter, Northwestern University

Let's not forget that ED applicants also got "screwed".

Not nearly to the same extent though. Wow.

That sucks a lot.

Guys, it's really not that "amazing." That is what the common ap does for a school--bring in more applications. However, the yield tends to suffer.

And just my own opinion, the fact that NU took about the same in the fall as it did in previous years suggests to me that the applicant pool itself wasn't as strong as they might have hoped. This is because if the applicant pool was very strong, it would have made sense for NU to take a bit more students ED, to attain a higher yield. Remember: ED people admitted are considered 100 percent on the yield factor. And I think getting that yield back up is very important.

^ But otoh, this is the 2nd year of using the common app. and seeing a 12.3% increase on top of last year is surprising (even taking into account the demographic bulge).

Tho, your point on yield is right on point.

Unless they expect the RD applicant pool to be overall much stronger, which is a good guess considering more and more trickle down of top students from the top schools (specifically those how eliminated early) will reach NU.

Maybe NU just wants to keep 25% of the class as EDers regardless.

wow
that makes me really nervous

I am screwed. Oh well.

The 5,800 seniors accepted to the Class of 2012 will receive their letters by March 20

5,800 will be the largest number of admits in school history; the number was like 4,800 even just few years ago.

March 20? That's early!

^ Well that's interesting. This says early April.

yield isn't as important as test scores, diversity, etc. test scores and class composition are more important to manage, yield follows naturally

I remember it being april.

Oh dear. This makes me even more nervous than I already was. I can see my chance practically flying out the window.

That is about an 8.01% acceptance rate! Wow, that is close to that of HYP.

Good luck to everyone who applied!

^no. u confused enrollment with #accepted.

yea it's like a 23% acceptance rate
