rd applicants

im kinda freaking out here. has anyone gotten a confirmation letter saying that their application was received or complete?

got one about 2 weeks after i submitted my app. i would call admissions

i haven’t recieved one either. although i applied on new year’s eve… so hopefully it’ll arrive soon.

I applied the 31st and nothing yet. I’m sure they will come, in due time. Have thousands to send out.

Don’t worry… for EA, I didn’t get my confirmation until over a full month after the application deadline, even though they said it would come a week or two earlier than it actually did. If you’re nervous, call them; it won’t hurt you.

They probably have alot of applications and are still processing things. Don’t worry! Their website says that they will notify you in early February if you are missing anything and at that time you can still send in your missing things without being punished for it.

I got mine today. Sent in app on Dec. 31.

It’ll come guys.

Hi, ND students and/or parents! My d applied EA and was deferred. Short story: ACT 32; SAT 2180; GPA 4.0 UW/ 4.34W; 3 varsity letters in swimming; swim co-captain senior year; NM commended status; 300+ hours of service by beginning of senior year. After applying to ND, she spent a week in El Salvador touring community programs and attending classes at the University of Central America. A week after she got home, she raised $4K through our church for two children’s programs she visited in San Salvador. After her deferral, she updated her admission counselor and asked how she could improve her application. She was told she was a very strong applicant but could take ACT or SAT again. Here’s the problem: she cannot take either test in time for scores to be available for admission committee to consider before 4/1. What do you make of this suggestion? If she takes SAT in March and scores come in 3/31, those only really help if she is on fence for RD admission. If she gets wait-listed, improved scores might help, but since she is way too busy-- with 8 classes, swimming (18 hours/week) and her other commitments, I can’t see her finding time to study again for the test. My d can hardly ignore a suggestion from her admission counselor but how important do you think a re-test will be? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

How was her Math + CR score. ND does not consider the writing portion of the SAT

I’m pretty sure that she can’t take the March SAT; they wouldn’t consider it.

I would send in the mostest report, tell about the trip and the money raised and anything else new. I would reiterate how she wants to go to ND and write an email of letter to your AdCom in your area.

^ midyear report*

Sorry

Thanks for the responses so far. Her CR +M=1420. I know that is on the low side for ND but at least over the magic 1400. She has done some of the things you all have suggested (updating activities/accomplishments) and may try to get in as standby on the Feb ACT. Even so, there is no guarantee she’ll get a seat for that test. The tone of her area counselor’s last email was very positive but it’s hard to know what to make of a suggestion that she cannot really comply with, and one that can’t really do her much good–unless, of course, she is wait-listed. Then a better test performance might help.

rckpgh,
I would consider scheduling a test date even though it may be late and results could come in right at decision deadline or even after. Does the name rckpgh have any reference to Pittsburgh, PA? I only ask because S is a freshman from West PA and would have had the same AdCom as your D. I can see AdCom telling your D about retaking test(s) if D asked “what can I do to be more competitive applicant?”. This would be a standard answer to a standard question. Son took ACT in similar situation late in the game, score came up a little in reading but composite remained the same. AdCom told him “congrats on raising your reading score”. I think retaking ACT or SAT without getting D to crazy would be positive but not “life or death” in admissions process. If Maureen is your D’s AdCom…she is in great hands and the “strong candidate” comment is a very positive sign.

Good Luck

Yes, WestPAND, my d would like to join the proud members of the Steeler Nation at ND next year. We live in the N. Hills. I think she will try to retake the ACT as a stand-by in Feb. and we’ll go from there. I have tracked your posts over the last year and your son’s story has given me hope; you actually gave me good advice last year, so I continue to appreciate your perspective and counsel. We have been heartened by the noticeable change in tone in MC’s emails–from matter of fact and discouraging (re: applying EA) to very positive after D’s updates and last email. It’s just a tough wait, as you well know. Thanks again.

rckpgh,
D’s stats and ecs from the short description above appear right in range to earn “strong candidate” comment from MC. I think D is in pretty solid position! Keep email dialouge going with M… you and D take a deep breath every so often. PM me anytime with questions and of course when you hear a decision.

GO STILLERS!!! “Knockin on Seven’s Door”

and NO CC that is no typo…it’s a “BURGH” thing…rckpgh, yunz il unerstand!!!

At the ND college night I attended the speaker was most specific about not applying early action unless ACT was 33 or higher. This was assuming that the rest of the record was stellar as well. The impression given was that if you didn’t hit the mark you should apply regular decision. So it may simply be that your D didn’t hit the cut-off and will do well in regular admission.

Eh, my friend at school got in EA with a 30 ACT. Had great grades and ECs, but still a 30 ACT. Things aren’t so cut in stone.

^ I’m guessing he or she was a minority?

^ or recruited athlete

Ha, CC people are hilarious. No, he’s neither. Goes to a suburban catholic school in Denver.
