I want to apply to uchicago RD. Please share with me your honest opinion about my chances. I know the whole thing may seem pointless to some, but what I am asking is that you only tell me if I'm good enough...not necessarily if I get in or not (b/c that's kind of luck's game). Thanks!

personal essay: wrote on chemistry. I know my exam scores don't reflect my class performance (which was stellar) and love for the subject. The SAT II was a bit too fast for me...and I'm one of those ppl who likes to take my time. Also, it was my first encounter with the real SAT II, so I think I might have choked somewhere in between.

Last year, only one person (I think: could be more) from my school got into uchicago. I don’t think he/she was that competitive…but SAT could have been stellar if he/she got admitted.

Uchicago is probably the best at choosing students who will be a good fit for their school, therefore its less numbers dependent and more holistic. If you can convey yourself well in the app you have a better shot than you think

Yeah, the hard stats are low. Work hard on those essays.

Chemistry is a rather vague topic, but I understand the reticence in sharing specifics. Make it personal, make it earnest. If you really want to go to Chicago, you want your essays to make the admissions committee go “hey, we’ve got a real intellectual here, someone our professors would love to teach” and thereby look past the gpa and test scores.

I’m sure, even with an acceptance rate in the teens, Chicago will still be looking for those diamonds in the rough. No, there won’t be as many as in the O’Neill days, but such is life.
