****i couldn't do sports or anything special because i had to take care of my mentally ill mother....(i think this will be one of my essays)

your academics are all quite good, 2200 is competitive, you can retake the SAT II math if it doesn’t take too much time and prep to get an 800, the ECs show involvement in different areas, but you don’t seem to excel at anything. noone cares how much money you made (unless it was for a fund raiser), or how many SATIIs you took. The only thing that stands out are the self-studied APs. And i understand that your mother being ill, is a contraint on time, but do not use it as an excuse for not doing well in classes or for not doing sports (if doing sports matters so much), or for not excelling. let them make that inference and judgement. I’m not underestimating how much of a hinderance it was to you (i wouldn’t be able to tell), but if you start using it as an excuse then it will hurt you. It’s much better to mention it (or even better let a teacher or councellor mention it in a rec) and then talk about how you continued with everything you had to do. than it is to focus on what you couldn’t achieve as a result. The former shows you to be perseverant and resillient. The latter could make you come off as being less able to cope with problems, or worse looking for excuses to have not achieved your potential. good luck.

^ I agree. I have a similar domestic issue and plan on talking about how it has actually diverted my attention to education and made me a stronger person in the end. Honestly, if it weren’t for what I witness at home, knowing my personality I would spend way too much time just hanging out with my friends and not really take grades too seriously.

so how are my chances for ED then???

bump…
