RD Chances at Cornell (CAS)

Hey, another annoying chance thread, i know. but this would be INCREDIBLY helpful if I could get an idea of where I stand for regular decision. I'll try and keep it short and sweet.

UW GPA: ~3.65
W GPA: ~4.1

No ranking.

ACT: 34 (35, 36, 34, 32)
SAT II: Physics and Math II (800)
APs: Calc BC (5), Psych (4, selfstudy), Stats (4), Eng III (4)
Current APs: AP Chinese, AP English IV, AP Physics, and Calc 3 (not an AP, but AP level... actually higher. but yeah)

Extra curriculars: Varsity Math Team (9-12), Varsity Tennis (9-12), Mock Trial (10-12) (exec board on mock trial)

Volunteer: Volunteer at a museum. I build and prototype new exhibits.

Summer Research in medical physics

Female going into physics

Overall, I believe I have strong test scores, but my GPA is also pretty weak. I have taken the most rigorous courseload possible and have challenged myself. I'm very dedicated to my extra curriculars and believe I'll get stellar recs.

eeeeeh. overall. i'm pretty lost at where I stand. any feed back would be excellent, thanks!

You have nice test scores … but which one of your extracurriculars are you extremely passionate about? You should select one to showcase (in your essays). I think you can elaborate on the summer research experience in your essay, etc.

What do you think your rank or percentile is (i.e top 1%, 5,%, 10%, etc)? Cornell looks like a mid-high reach for you.

You have an impressive application but unfortunately you never know with CAS. CAS is very competitive and almost like picking out of a hat blind-folded. I’d say if you applied ED you’d have a better shot but RD I wouldn’t call a guarantee. Good luck.

I think your chances are pretty good–my daughter is a freshman at Cornell CAS and based on the scores of the other admitted students, I think you are competitive. You’re also choosing a major where being a female will be an asset. As some of the others have said, I do think you should pick one thing to focus on and really showcase in your essay. Good luck!

Even if your school doesn’t officially rank, do you have an idea if you are top 10% in your class? Top 5? Because I can almost guarantee Cornell will be able to have a fairly accurate guess when they evaluate your application.
