RD chances at either AEM or Hotel

I'm still undecided as to which I will apply to. I'm starting to lean more towards Hotel. What do you guys think my chances are?

GPA

soph-94.4
junior-95.5

All classes are considered honors level, but unfortunately my school does not offer any APs. I took all the thoughest courses for senior year, which is advanced physics and statistics in addition to calc.

ECs are decent

If your school doesn't offer APs, cornell will know that from your school's report (it shows class size, how many APs, average GPA, etc.)

For hotel you don't seem to have any hospitality related EC like working as a waiter or something, which might make it tough. However, otherwise you have a strong profile as an applicant.

Actually, I forgot to mention that sophomore year I worked 15 hours during the school week at Baja Fresh. I also caddied for a summer at this expensive country club near my house.

ok now we're talking, your chances just got alot better for hotel...

are you personable, mature sounding when you talk to adults, capable of acting professional and friendly toward strangers? the interview is big for those going into the hospitality industry. If you're not (and even if you are, its a good idea!), I'd suggest having practice interviews with adults your parents might be able to find to fake interview you.

Also try and get in touch with a class of 08 or 09 hotelie who can give you the dirt on the interview. Cornell2009hotelie or w/e is on this board (she just recently posted in the "2009 meet-up" thread in the class of 2009 subforum) so PM her and ask her about the interview. the more info on the interview you can get the better.

Try and find a service job this summer and into the fall, and work really hard--go above and beyond so that people might put in a good word to your boss:D-- so you might be able to get a supplemental recommendation from them which would look great.

Thanks for the help. Usually I do great with interviews. I've had a lot of jobs, and am used to working with adults on a professional level. My teachers always say I'm great at public speaking and presenting myself. I think the interview would most likely be my biggest asset. I guess I seem to forget some of the most important stuff to Hotel School.

Write a d--- good essay. Writing is a key and currently often absent skill in the business world, according to a businessman I know. He works at a firm and says that even though he's a partner, all kinds of people in the firm take him stuff to proofread because he knows his stuff. I think hotel and AAP are the two least statistically-dependant schools in terms of admissions. AAP is very portfolio focused and Hotel is very...you focused. I mean, yes, obviously you have to be bright to get in, but it's more about non-traditionally academic qualities for those schools than it is for others.
