hey kee10

i am a freshman at haverford...and i used to live in bangladesh. i moved to the US in 9th grade! which school did you go to uptil 10th grade, and where do you go now? i used to go to greenherald.
anyway, i think that you have a good shot to say the least. your list of ECAs is very comprehensive and your grades are good too. haverford will look at the entire person so don't worry too much about the B's and C's. i am not very good with these evaluations, but you definitely have a good chance of getting in here...i would be happy to answer any other questions you have...also in terms of financial aid, haverford gives 2 or 3 int'l students each year a big scholarship.
what other schools are you looking at?

hello nrahman, thanks for your reply. i did my olevels from sunbeams and am doing my alevels from mastermind. i know some people from green herald who got into bowdoin and harvard last year :) i've applied ED 1 to vassar - i'll apply RD to other colleges if that doesn't work out.

got my SAT 1 scores yesterday - higher than i expected:

CR = 780
Math = 670
Writing = 680 (essay = 12)

i might retake in december to raise math and writing scores.

i want to know if haverford is generous with international financial aid because i can't pay more than 7% and i'll need the college to cover the rest. also, where else had you applied and what were your stats, if you don't mind sharing :)

thanks again,
kee.

hey again,
this is crazy- the bowdoin and harvard people are my friends from greenherald and i am still very much in touch with them (i don't want to mention any names on this site). in fact, the bowdoin one was asking me about my cousin (who had applied ED 1 to vassar last year from scholastica and had gotten in) because he said someone from MM was applying and wanted to know. that "someone" must have been you! lol...
firstly, i think you have a very good chance with vassar. fingers crossed for you :) second, as i said, every year haverford gives 2 or 3 international students full financial aid (like most other LACs). but if you are not one of the 2 or 3 people, i don't think you get as much.
sorry i am not of much help in terms of int'l fin aid because i applied from the US and am a permanent resident here, so the fin aid process was different for me.
i applied ED to haverford and got in and therefore did not even send applications to other schools. but vassar, swarthmore, upenn, brown, etc were on my list. My SAT 1 scores were not too great - i got a 1340 (it was still out of 1600 then). SAT 2 scores were all in the 700's. and i took 9 AP courses during high school (i guess the equivalent of A Levels?) and got 4's and 5's on all of them (they are graded on a scale going up to 5). and i did Model United Nations (head delegate), played field hockey, and did a good amount of volunteering and peer tutoring. I think my essay and recommendations were quite good too.
I think your math and writing scores are fine. if you want to retake them, go ahead, but you probably don't want to retake and get lower scores, because that has happened to people i know. and great job with the essay - a 12 is amazing!
anyway, gtg now...

thanks for your reply :) i've sent you a private message. 9 APs a are a lot! :D
