RD chances for CGS?

GPA: 3.14 (UW)
SAT: 700 CR, 600 M, 690 W
AP Scores: English Language and Composition (3), US History (4)

Extracurriculars:

  • Have been working since freshman year of high school at various jobs (anywhere from 25-45 hrs per week)
  • Math Team (grade 9-11)
  • Student Outreach (elected an officer/volunteer coordinator during the first meeting I attended, grade 11)
  • Instagram page that is devoted to positivity, academics, and some science. Has basically allowed me to write. Not giving out the username for obvious reasons. I don’t know if this one really counts, but it has thousands of followers. It is only Instagram, so it may be tossed to the side. Guidance counselor has put it in the recommendation so it may be looked at.
  • ran a compliments page for my school. Kept it anonymous and it eventually became a big deal; was covered by the local news outlet and I still kept it anonymous at that point. Was finally outed. Oh well.

Recommendations:
Math Teacher: 9/10; I have had this teacher for 3 years and have always done well in her class. She expects great work from me and views me as a “star” student. I really love math lol.
Foreign Language Teacher: 10/10; was absolutely AMAZING from what I have heard. This teacher saw great potential in me and motivated me with her love for the language
Guidance Counselor: 100000/10; I only exaggerate this because my guidance counselor is like my best friend! Understands my family situation and has told me that this rec. is probably the best she has written in her entire career thus far (which surprises me because I don’t look good on paper).

Essays:

  • BU supplement was amazing, according to my GC. I thought it was good too. Used an extraneous metaphor but made it work completely. Presented creativity and a willingness to learn.
-Common App essay: not sure about this. Before I had the help of an amazing person, it was not as great as it currently is.
It was highly personal and explained circumstances without presenting them as a sob story that was aiming to gain their pity. Was passionate and truthful, so I hope they enjoy it regardless of what happens.

Hooks:
1st generation, URM, low-income (is this really a hook?)

*keep in mind I chose to apply to CGS. It’s not a second option, it’s a first choice for me. I couldn’t care less about the gossip or reputation surrounding it. Seeing as my credentials are not the best and suggest that I don’t have the best foundation, I think CGS will be the best fit for me. I LOVE learning and I believe that it takes time. I want to go into neuroscience. Being someone who loves the brain and is fascinated by it, I advocate learning in the best way. The best way is your way. My way includes no rushing and combatting my problems head-on from the very beginning. While I may not be on the 7 yr medical track or in the running for CAS, my aim is to go into neuroscience and maybe go to medical school. I will get there. I am just taking a different path. *

I think you do have a chance for CGS
All the best!
Please chance me back

Uhm thanks for the feedback

With your scores yes you have a very good chance of getting into CGS. I got in with similar scores mainly the gpa which I was worried about at first. Best of luck BU has an incredible neuro program!
