RD Chances for Columbia

Columbia is one of my top choices and I would appreciate any feedback on what sort of a chance I have.

For: Columbia College.
I am a senior. Multiracial: Black and Indian (the Asian kind). Immigrated to the U.S. 5 year back.

School: Highly competitive public school
GPA: 91-92 (3.7-3.8) UW
School does not weigh or rank. Most rig courseload.
SATs: 2180
SAT IIs: 740-760s on a bunch.
APs: U.S. and World History: 5; Macro and Bio: 4
Taking APs: Physics C, Calc AB, Micro and Comp.

ECs:

I started my own online business. A friend and I created our own software and launched the site. The business gets a lot of hits and generates profits. The firm is registered as an LLC. I am the CEO of the firm and responsible for managing our relationship with the distributors as well as develop the business further. By far my primary activity.

I conducted economics research during junior and senior year. The researched focused on financial literacy and socioeconomic classes. I have submitted the project to Intel STS and plan on submitting to a variety of journals as well.

I have been elected as a representative at my school's student government.

I have studied indian classical music for the past 7 years. My focus has been on folk music.

Internships:

I currently intern at a hedge fund in the Chicago area. I got the internship by contacting them myself (I have no contacts in the industry or anything). I had the same responsibilities as college interns during the summer, but currently only work after school twice a week.

I have also interned at a corporate law firm. Attained it the same way as the hedge fund internship. Worked there during the summer and prepared case files and conducted legal research.

Another question>

If I want to add an activity sheet to the application as some of my ECs (the business and internships) could use some explanation, how would I go about doing that? Is there a place for that on the online app?

Thanks a ton.

there should be a place to attach "any additional documentation or things we need to know about you". if there's not, though, make one yourself - mail stuff under separate cover. chutzpah such as that, based on what you've said, should be nothing new to you.

oh, and keep the "Explanations" BRIEF. make sure every word is important.

denzera rox my sox.

i dont understand why people make chances threads when there is no set formula. i would say you have a good shot b/c EC's, but I'm not an adcom so I have no idea if they'll see you in a good light.

Thanks for the responses.

Denzera> I will check that out today as I plan on finishing up the app by tonight. The explanations will be brief, its just that they know how I got the internships and started my business. I don't want them to think that I got all of these due to parents or connections as I went out and tried to find opportunities. My parents are immigrants who haven't even completed high school so I never benefited from connections or anything.

Mychaindownlow> Just asking because after reading CC for the past two weeks my stress level has basically hit the roof! Seeing kids with 2300+ getting rejected/deferred really increases the anxiety level.

Thanks again and if there is any more feedback feel free to post it up.

Another question> Should I put the business I founded as an "outside school activity" or as "job"? Would appreciate any assistance.

put it down as both. under job, list as "self-employed ___ - see activity section for details"

Thanks that seems to be the best way to go.

You must be are applying to same colleges as I am... I have seen your post several times... LOL~!

Bumping it because of a new development:

I just made Intel STS Semifinalist (<a href="http://www.sciserv.org)%5B/url%5D">www.sciserv.org)</a>. How does that affect my chances?

Appreciate all feedback.

half indian, half african american? dammm ... (im no racist bro, but ur kind are rare)

im talking about u as though u were a thing .... sry.

s/he said indian (asian)
blasian is rare i must admit.

Well thats good then cause hopefully it looks good for college haha. How do the chances look though?
