RD chances?? (percentage)

i know for me getting into SEAS is a huge reach obviously, but i'm mainly going for the UCs(i'm a cali resident), but Columbia's my top choice for a private school..so uhh

sat1 (they take best from diff. sittings right? my best in one sitting is 2040)
cr 680 writing 750 math 680 (2110) writing subscore74, essay 10
sat2
math2c 790 chem.will find out in a week or so(hopefully 700+)

rank-unknown, i might have to check.

and heres what'll prolly get me rejected-
my gpa is like, 3.35 unweighted.

however, i went from a 3.0 in 1st sem. freshman year and ive gotten all the way up to 3.8 uw in my second semester of junior year. basically, i've improved my gpa every semester since i started high school. and in terms of math/science grades, i've definitely raised my grades up in those disciplines a lot..hopefully that "upward trend" thing helps a bit..hopefully.
-ive taken as many AP classes as i could possibly take..so i think my "schedule strength" in my school def. is strong. total of 7 AP classes total, 4 honors classes

extracirriculars
-piano, i've won a bunch of competitions and played in lots of honor recitals/concert halls etc..i'm definitely using this to kinda set myself different from everyone. i'm goina submit a recording of my playing; hopefully it'll help a bit.
-volunteering at tech museum of innovation in sj cali. this could show my "love for science" as i have gained more interest in science by explaining biology/chem stuff to visitors..
-volunteering at a local nursing home and providing 1-hr solo piano performances to the residents twice a month..
-kumon learning center tutor. basically, i teach kids math..
-assistant basketball coach. this was for 1 year only though
-volunteering at a local library..only 30 hours or so
theres more but mostly these are the important ones.

FBLA for 4 years. i've placed in a State competition in Java once(9th)
CSF for 2 years..its kinda similar to NHS but not as prestigious

recs- i really dont know..maybe i should ask to see them

essay- havent done em yet but i'm pretty sure it'll be pretty good at least

thx!

I think the main thing here is your GPA,3.3 is very very very low. your SATs are fine (altho sat i math is a little on the low side for engineering) your ECs are very scattered. I think you can have a shot at SEAS but it'll take alot of polishing of your application.
show columbia what you love and what you can do.

GL with your application.

OMG! a fellow californian in a columbia forum!
score!
as lynda(all hail!) pointed out, a 3.3 is very...very low. but I too was in a similar situation as you. At the end of freshmen year, i was rank 130+ out of 600 students, but since then, i have worked my way up to a 4.4WGPA and rank 11/600. And i applied ED for CC and got a deferral. i think the adcom wants to see if i can keep my work up senior year before they admit me, but im sure there are other factors.
as for ur SAT, their nothing stellar. solid but not stellar.
so heres my advice, you dont have the numbers that other people do, so you need to step up your EC's. the problem is, thats kinda hard to do in...what? a month?
best of luck
(go cali people!)

yeah my gpa is def. low for sure..but how does columbia look at it? i know for UCs they only look at 10th/11th, so my UC gpa isn't that bad..do they look at weighted as well? if so, then the gpa would be higher but not by much

yea, i guess im goina try to use the extracirriculars i already have and just embellish it the best i could..theres nothin i can do about it now though.

unweighted GPA isn't everything....valedictorian last year had a 3.5 uw, and someone with a gpa lower than her's got in columbia...it depends on your classes too

gahhh i didnt do too well on my sat2 chem-i got a 640. and i expected 700 or so. i guess my chances just took a big hit. oh well, might as well just wait and see what happens.
