US History: 5

Thanks!

Hmm… Well I’d say your app places you in the category of being “qualified for admissions” aka you’re not thrown out of contender-ship by anything. I beleive you are correct that your class rank doesn’t make you stand out, but since it is still in the top 10% it doesn’t kill you either. I’d say your biggest strength seems to be your interest in government, with most of your EC’s reflecting this, and the poetry awards add an interesting flavor to that. Perhaps in your essay you could discuss what exactly brought these two diverse things to your attention (but remember your essay needs to be unique, they don’t need another “I love this subject because…” essay).

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with everything through the nice and stressful admissions process :)

^Good assessment. Though I think your class rank will make this admit tough.

Generally I too agree with Spunaugles’s assessment. I do think that the fact that you are a Korean-American who is NOT a science/math/premed type will help you. And an upward trend is good.

If your recommendations portray you as talented/passionate in the gov/IR and poetry areas, as well as a generally excellent student, it should also help you establish individuality. Choose your recommendors carefully!
