theres some more inconsequential stuff too - like i played varsity tennis just this year, wrote for the spanish mag last year, in mu alpha theta, model un in 9th and 10th, founded a biology club this year and i help tutor people

my recs should be pretty good in terms of praising me but my teachers aren’t very good rec writers so it won’t have like little anecdotes or anything (the stuff that makes recs really good) and ill have an extra rec from my boss at the library to send in

You definitely look very qualified to me. You must also apply to some other great schools. But how in the world did you get a perfect 4.00 unweighted GPA? Wouldn't that mean that you had perfect scores on everything you've ever taken?

seriously you are amazing. wow.. congrats on being like perfect at everything!!.. you know w/ the ivys you never know whats gonna happen.. but your chances seem great to me. i guess just make sure your essay ties you together realy well b/c you have done so much it might be difficult to create a trend.. but im sure you can do it. good luck :)

a 4.0 uw just means that i made all As, so anything between 93 and 100 counts as a 4.0. haha.

Ah you guys have it easy. A 4.0 at my school is a 97-100

more like anything bt 90 and 100, cowboy

Isn't the A&M Merit Plus scholarship contingent upon enrollment at Texas A&M? My daughter received the same letter/certificate...wonder if they sends it to all NMSF?

recieving the actual scholarship is, but you're still named as a "scholar" and it is a reward.

you can determine that by the certificate sent to you. tons of schools send out to nmsf that "oh, if you apply, we will give you such and such money" but that's not a guarantee and nothing specific has been granted besides the money. this particular one serves as an actual award.

Texas and Baylor also have guaranteed NMSF, NMF and NHS scholarships. The A&M monies are similar...guaranteed if you apply, are admitted and enroll...but not transferrable.

Brown is a different world from where you are. Savvy kids from the Northeast, with higher SATs than you. I doubt that you will get in without higher SATs or a sport. Sorry, I can't be more upbeat.

mensa 160 -

I actually think sljaeger has very competitive credentials and most of the highly selectives do like to create a geographically diverse student body...so that actually creates a disadvantage for some of those 'savvy kids' you speak of...

And I fail to see why some want to associated 'savvy' or sophistication exclusively with one geographical area. Haven't we evolved enough to dismiss such old, uninformed notions?

Read I am Charlotte Simmons!

Never been much of a Tom Wolfe fan myself.

I guess I didn't realize that 110 points over the average SAT at Brown didn't at least put me in the running, scores-wise.

Also, I mentioned that I play soccer if you didn't read my whole post.

sljaeger, your verbal is above the 75th percentile, your math is about average. For a female, the reverse of math and verbal would have been more helpful, because it is rarer.

Brown's SATs look lower, but that is because they don't select for them as much. The average SAT of Brown applicants is as high as its cohorts. Brown is looking for something different. You may have that for sure.

Nope, a 4.0 at my school is a 97. Thats why my 99% = 4.07

Oh and slajaeger, I think you have very competitive stats. You really do have a solid shot.

To add to the acception of northeast people . . . a friend from my school in Eastern KY was admitted with a 1410 M/V and a regional officer from Brown talked to me and said that six people accepted to Brown came from Eastern KY alone. Sure the people in the Northeast are a little different from the South, but it's not a "different world." We have sophistication in the south too, you know. Plus, Brown is a school that proudly tries to accept people from every state. I think there were maybe two or three states that weren't represented in the class last year (that's what I remember reading at least.) So, just looking at test scores, she has very competitive stats and my guess would be that, if geography plays a role, it will be a positive one.

Oh, and I just noticed that you do speech sljaeger. I do too, went to NFL Nats last year. I do Congress as well, but my focus is on extmep. Best of luck with your tournaments this year!

"Sure the people in the Northeast are a little different from the South, but it's not a "different world." We have sophistication in the south too, you know."

Western Kentucky is not just a little different. If you don't agree with that, I suggest you tell the Brown admissions department (and Yale, Harvard, etc) not to admit you for reasons of geographic diversity.
