RD Chances

Hi everyone, I swore I would never make one of these threads yet here I am! I am a senior and am just getting very nervous.

Gender: Female
State: CT
Intended Major: International Studies/Middle East Studies
Ethnicity: White
GPA: 94 (school does not assign an official GPA, we are only told this for Naviance purposes), we don’t get a rank either
SAT: 720CR 670M 680WR (2070 Total) <–is this actually low? According to the Midd website it’s well within their range.
SAT2: 730 USH

I applied for financial aid (and my EFC is around 0) - I only have one parent (the other died a year ago).

Main Extracurriculars:

  • Martial Arts (4 Years, am testing for black belt in June)
  • Prom Committee Chair (2 years)
  • Community Service Club Chair (3 years)
  • Self study Italian – I teach myself vocab and grammar, I have also taken classes online (2 years)
  • Hospital volunteer for (2 years, 150+ hrs)
  • Synagogue fundraising team (2 years, ~100 hrs)
  • I teach Hebrew at my synagogue (4 years, paid)
  • head photographer for school newspaper (been on newspaper for 3 years, leadership only senior year)
  • lifeguard (1 year, paid)

Besides learning Italian, I also speak Hebrew and Spanish (and English, obviously). I spent 2 months studying/living in Israel last year.

You’re in the most difficult category in terms of admissions–a white woman from New England. Your SAT scores are very good, but I’m not sure they’re good enough to make you stand out from the crowd. With your family situation and experience abroad, you have some compelling material for an essay. I hope you took advantage of that. Have you visited campus?

I have visited the campus and I think I have definitely shown interest. I would have applied ED but my family agreed it wasn’t a good idea due to financials. And I certainly did take advantage of my experiences abroad! Thanks for responding!
