RD Class of 2019 Discussion and Results Thread

@couplemoreweeks‌ @binatang‌ wow this is so interesting. I was accepted at Pomona and Vanderbilt but waitlisted at UCLA

@mirrrrrrr I guess this just shows the seemingly random nature of admissions… not that you got in because of luck or anything; I’m sure you were a very qualified applicant. Let’s hope for the best for CMC!

can you guys do a last minute chance I’m spazzing because it’s been a bad couple of days (rejected Pomona, Bowdoin, Carleton waitlisted UCLA)

GPA: 3.8/4.28

EC’s: Award-winning attorney in mock trial, nationally ranked soccer team, PR Director and captain of strategy for robotics, state medalist in science olympiad

Volunteering: 150 at children’s hospital, 100 with Key Club-service coordinator for 500 students, 75 with special ed department

Recs: 9/10, didn’t read, didn’t read,
Essays: 8/10 and 7/10
No hooks except dual-citizen maybe?
Income: 40k
School: Large fairly competitive public
California

Carleton is NOT need blind so 40k income was a problem. The other two rejections are hard to get into, but not harder than CMC.

ahh, I’ve heard that for CMC, leadership is extremely crucial in your application.

Do you think it mattered if we filled out the leadership survey they sent out by email …?

I don’t think they can ding you with those. They said “will not be used in the admissions process” so I think you are safe.

so what low mid or high reach? cause I’m in the range for everything and I was under the impression that CMC is less selective than Pomona and Bowdoin because the applicant pool is less accomplished as a general rule of thumb as opposed to those schools.

That’s killer though I absolutely loved Carleton and to think that the fact that my parents couldn’t pay for it had some effect really sucks. Oh well :disappointed:

To soccerboy10: best of luck to you tomorrow…i really hope you get in.

However,if you don’t, you’re in some very good company.

“… I was under the impression that CMC is less selective than Pomona and Bowdoin because the applicant pool is less accomplished as a general rule of thumb as opposed to those schools.”

Actually, CMC and Pomona will be the top 2 LAC’sin the country this year, in terms of selectivity…not implying that makes them the top 2 LAC’sin the country, but they’re right up there.

Here’s an interesting statistic:

Did you all know that, this year, 4 of the 5 most selective colleges in the country (LAC’s) are 4 of the 5 Claremont Colleges?

  1. Claremont McKenna - 9% (projected)
  2. Pomona - 9.76 % (actual)
3-5 (no particular order): Harvey Mudd
    Swarthmore
    Pitzer
    - (all projected) 10-12%
i guess i will post this on the other 4C sites as well.

Good luck to everyone today!

Are the decisions out? Someone posted in another thread that they are, but I’m not certain if that’s accurate.

Just Checked…nope

Good luck, everyone! This is my dream school and I hope to get in, but the stats are stacked against me. Hopefully, something will click for me in the admissions office.

@stagalum - Pitzer came out yesterday with 12.7% acceptance rate.

i just got rejected from my dream school and will probably be even more of a complete mess if i get rejected from CMC this afternoon…

One more hour people! So ready to get rejected!

@binatang‌ this probably won’t help right now but you have to look past a rejection. There are a million and one reasons - many of them out of your control - that may have resulted in this decision. Yields, diversity ratios, population, financial aid, an admissions officer having a bad day…the best thing you can do is learn from this. Ask - “how am I going to take this - lying down? Or on the chin?” Life has a way of working out, and what can feel harsh now may have unexpected benefits in the future. I’ve found this in my own life - what once seemed a failure actually lead me on a path to success. So don’t worry. These decisions, although important, aren’t going to make/break you. Know that and the rest is smooth sailing.

Current class of 2018 student here. Best of luck to all applicants on CC!

does CMC waitlist? 30 more minutes, time change has me waiting extra long whoops!
