General Comments: Excited about getting in an hopefully will be at Rice next year, just have to wait for the financial package.

GO FOR RICE!!!!!!!

Great international food, warm weather, residential colleges...what's not to like?

if you're waitlisted, when do you find out if you're in?

And to add to that, we've both (Shrivats and I) been awarded Lovett scholarships! :)

Wow, k_twin! Congratulations to you and your brother!!!

Thanks! :D (This definitely pushes Rice to the top of our list :))

Please attend. I love twins.
We'd be good friends.

Just got the financial package--Trustee Distinguished Scholarship!!-well Rice is looking really good right now and good luck to those who are waitlisted.

Engineering full-tuition scholarship.
Wh- what.
No, like, seriously, Rice. What. I mean, it has my name on it. And it has my major on it. And it was in my folder. So I can kind of infer that it was meant for me.
But WHY, Rice, WHY?

Oh and I can't come to Owls Weekend because of prior reservations. SCORE.

Just when I thought life was easy. :C

I see that you would not like to go to Rice.

Can I ask where you'd like to go?

Haha, not so much that, but... I applied to Rice mostly for the scholarships back when I had no idea what I wanted, and frankly didn't know much about Rice. (I'm in that ever-so-popular income bracket that gets little to no aid but can't afford a private school anyway, so merit scholarships were the way to go for me). I knew it was an amazing school, and that it had AMAZING engineering/science programs, and some articles I've seen on stuff going on there, but... not a whole lot by any stretch of the word. Even right after sending in my app, I knew the best I could hope for was maybe a couple of thousand in merit scholarships, maybe some minor aid - obviously, there would be far more qualified applicants getting the few really amazing scholarships. I mean, I have good SATs, a pretty solid GPA, rigorous schedule/college classes (I'm like rank 3/325, though), and some ECs that, y'know, aren't made up but... I'm very far from spectacular. I might qualify for some of the more mediocre classifications of awesome, but that's about it. I remember rather doubting that my supplement essay even makes sense, much less fit the prompt.
As I waited for Rice's packet to come in with FA/scholarship info, I was fully expecting to get nothing. And that was cool with me, because I knew where I'd be going next year, and they give full tuition scholarships to all their students. : ) I just wanted to get the packet so I could start turning schools down and send in my deposit there.
It was a real shock. I read the right side of the folder. Accepted. Okay. The internet told me as much. Read the left side of the folder. Six figure dollar amount. Double take. Read again. Check name. Check address. Read again.
Pinch self. Wonder if I have somehow been transported into alternate universe. Read again.
TOTALLY not what I expected to find when I came home from school today.

Not that I'm disappointed or something - I am EXTREMELY flattered - but I thought I had already decided everything and knew exactly where I wanted to go. Olin College of Engineering. Rice, for the past 2 weeks, has stuck out in my mind simply as the last decision to come in. (Not trying to do a disservice to Rice: I know it's an absolutely FANTASTIC school, but I just thought I had everything figured out already).
I almost feel like I'm robbing someone of $120 000 that they, I'm sure, deserved more than me.

And for the Owls Weekend thing, I'll still be making every effort to visit/check out/etc. Rice, just apparently at a slightly different time. :/
Sorry for the negative tone of that; but I'm just in serious shock. And pretty concerned for the booking issues/etc.

Edit: Wow, my college essays were shorter. Sorry guys. :]
