^they said that the decisions will be released in the last week of march…

I read on last year’s thread that they sent the mails on the 26th of March and they sent international decisions via e-mail on 22nd. I don’t know if that makes sense at all.

When I asked them, they said
“Decisions are mailed in the last week of march”
So, yeah… that makes sense to some extent…
OR, the decisions were sent on the same date… the snail mail reached late ( usually after 3-4 days) … and e-mails ( to internationals) instantly…

Whatever, brace yourselves, the decisions will be most probably be released this monday.
and good luck to all!!

Anyone know if decisions have been sent out yet?

I was reading the earlier posts, so does seeing " Students account " really mean acceptance?

from their twitter:

admissions + aid just a few days away from releasing remaining offers to Lafayette '17. !!!

@americandream : I really don’t think so…

^I don’t think so either, anyway bannerweb is the only website I can access so I guess I have more chances of getting rejected than accepted. I needed almost 100% aid so I don’t think Lafayette has that much money for Internationals!

^Yeah, same here…
BTW, where are you from?

admissions + aid just a few days away from releasing remaining offers to Lafayette '17. !!!

Does that mean that they sent out RD decisions already, and there are not many more spots open? This waiting is really excruciating…

The decisions I received in the past week, clearly suggest that the colleges are not ready to accept an international student whose father’s income is a meagre $8000 a year! I have been wait listed at Colgate and uChicago, accepted at Rhodes without much aid and rejected by Colby, Macalester, Skidmore and Trinity University with Skidmore and Trinity citing financial aid as the reason. I don’t hold much hope from Lafayette either.

Thank Goodness, I haven’t applied for aid at the bigger universities like the Ivy leagues and Duke; atleast I can expect a much fairer decision.

Americandream13:
Certainly you are heartbroken. Colleges have to choose from among many, many equally qualified students. They also have to keep the college going: pay faculty, run the facilities, amenities etc. They have to watch their money and try to distribute it the best way that they are able.
It is puzzling that you did not apply for financial aid at the Ivy schools. They have the largest pot of aid to give; I believe a couple of them even have policies of meeting ALL need with grants for the income level you post for your family, even for internationals.
Without requesting aid from ivies, how do you plan to attend?
If they accept you, how will you pay? Ivies do not give “merit” aid.
If you are not a US citizen you will not be able to secure a student visa unless you can document how you will cover tuition and living expenses. The documentation required is extensive & subject to verification, by the college and the US Dept of State (consulate). The college will not even issue the form you need to apply for the visa unless you can document the financial piece. You may need to gather more information to make your dream a reality. May not be too late to apply for aid. Good luck.

Yes, I was really heart broken then as I had just received Colby’s decision but your post definitely helped me see the larger picture. You helped me see the other side of the coin; just as finances are so important to me, they are important to the colleges too and they have to manage their money properly.

I just got a bit carried away as I had really worked hard to apply to these colleges and with 2150 SAT, 3.9 GPA and a decent set of ECs, I had imagined getting into few of the colleges I got rejected from.

Anybody got acceptance letter today?
I found one posting(not in CC) that she got it today, but she didn’t mention where she lived.

Why as a foreign student should you expect a free ride when American students do not get such deferential and so called diversity quota treatment? Good luck but some of these posts here amaze me.

^Let’s not turn this into hate speech, will ya?

I am sure international students have nothing against Americans. We just say that we would be happier if US colleges were more generous with financial aid to internationals. But they are not. Why? Well, basically, US colleges will first support Americans financially.(Of course) And then if there is still enough money left, then they can admit intls with financial aid.

It is just very unfortunate for us that the admit rate falls very drastically when we ask for aid. For example, Northwestern’s overall admit rate is 13%. But if you are an international student asking for financial aid, that rate drops to 5%. Swarthmore sent me a package, and it says only 1 in 21 international students are admitted with financial aid which is just under 5%

In short, it is harder for me to get into a not-needblind school with financial aid than to get into Harvard. It is funny and sad but it is true.

International students could still receive most merit scholarships that are non need based so if you so badly want to come to college in the US you could apply to a college that would be more of a safety for you and hope that they give you a big scholarship so that you don’t have a huge bill. These schools could barely afford to help every student attending the school. If they had the money to help everyone then nobody would be in debt after college. It makes perfect sense that US students have priority for financial aid. Most of us need money from the college on top of the ***** the government gives us. I agree with @MontanaDad about quota diversity treatment bs. If race really didn’t matter then everyone’s applications would be reviewed equally regardless of race. Simply being Asian, Native American, International, or Black doesn’t make you any better or worse than an equally qualified White American.

Well, honey, college costs 55,000$. Most merit scholarships don’t exceed 20,000$. Those that exceed are very limited. I just say that there is nothing to get angry about internationals. We are not stealing your money or whatever. Your government does support you well.

I read it on Lafayette Admissions’ Facebook page that the decisions are going to be mailed out today!!! I’m so nervous!!! Good luck to you all :)

Thank you,Laina17
That’s what I wanted to hear.
