Thank you so much ConfusedMominMA ,much appreciated

Hi OrangeWhite - my son received his packet in the mail yesterday; his portal updated overnight to show he’s been accepted but I know at least one person whose portal has updated with nothing yet in the mail. I know - not helpful.

Amherst is pretty amazing, so is Ithaca and Ann Arbor. I haven’t been to Athens or Gainesville. Burlington VT is up there too.

USNChief - concur with ConfusedMom And also contacting UMass’ financial aid office too. It never hurts to ask!

I think it varies from student to student. My son received his acceptance package, honors college accepted and merit award information by mail before his status through the portal stated that he had been accepted. We live in-state so I am not sure whether that makes a difference as to notice date. Also, I’m not sure if it matters what school/college student where student has applied to at UMASS.

I would also add Boston and Charlottesville VA has great college towns as well.

Thank you BTMell also afew more Ctowns that are awesome is Boston (we forget home great Beantown is)

Orangewhite- My guidance counselor found out that they update Spire exactly 7 days after letter is mailed out. So, if you live far away, you might see it on Spire first :)

Oh yes - Boston is awesome!

And I went to grad school in New Orleans - that’s pretty hard to beat.

We are in the same boat as confusedMom. Son was accepted early action, but to undeclared instead of mechanical engineering. In-state, 3.8 UW gpa, 1800+ SAT, lots of ec’s, varsity athlete. This was supposedly his safety school. I asked if he wanted to pursue a re-evaluation for regular decision and he is not interested. He was accepted to mechanical engineering at all of the other schools for which he applied (except Northeastern, deferred).

Again, nothing!!!

TedL123-yes, my son was accepted to almost all the other places he applied (except WPI and we still haven’t heard from RIT). We wanted to pursue it though since UMass Amherst is up near the top of his choices. Wow I am shocked that your that your son couldn’t get in with a 3.8! Doesn’t leave much hope for my DS! where else did your son apply?

UNH
UConn
Northeastern (deferred to regular decision)
Hofstra (on a whim, heard they gave great aid, went there and didn’t like the school and the engineering dept was not good)
Virginia Tech (going to visit in April)

I wouldn’t worry about gpa. I think UMass (and a lot of other public schools) weigh SAT heavily, based on how they gauge whether you get merit money.

TedL-Which is your son’s top choice, at this point? My son’s top choice is UConn. He also got into UMass Lowell, UNH, URI, Western New England, and Roger Williams. He didn’t like RIT’s campus but he applied anyway since it’s a great school and they have great co-op but since he’s in at UConn it really doesn’t matter whether he gets in or not (but it would be nice to hear!)

UConn is #1 for now. We shall see where it stands after visiting VA Tech.

Got the package in the mail today! FA package wasn’t included but she did receive a $5K/year Director’s Scholarship. Any little bit helps!

I have not been able to find anything other than this http://www.umass.edu/bursar/Full-Time%20Undergraduate%20Fees.pdf to show what the total fees are. Am I adding this up wrong or are out of state fees approx $18K total for out of state? I must be missing something.

Right now DD has UMass Amherst, U Col Boulder, Clarkson and Ithaca College. Still waiting to hear from U Delaware and Binghamton Univ.

All great schools; it’s probably going to come down to finances for us.

TEDL123, my neice and nephew go to VT (and love it … majoring in Communications and Pre-Med). It’s a gorgeous campus; have visited a couple of times.

oh sheesh, no wonder my numbers didn’t add up! The chart is per semester! This process is getting to me lol.

I think this process is getting to all of us!!!

My S applied engineering and we are out of state. He just got a packet today from UMASS and I suppose it is good news? He has been checking online and there has been no status change. I can’t wait till he gets home from school…

TedL - I wanted to commment on Va Tech…I am a former Hokie and it is an awesome school. Not sure if you have seen it yet. My S was accepted there as well and we are visiting in April. He was also acepted to UCONN Honors, Rutgers, Rowan Honors. Waiting to hear on Va Tech Honors program and still waiting on RPI and TCNJ decisions. Top choice ?? He is really confused. We are revisiting a few schools during April break and hoping to make a decision but scholarships are making the decision very tough for him. He really wants Va Tech but they are not big on scholarships for out of state (he did apply for the Engineering Dean Scholarship).

Good Luck everyone.

My daughter hasn’t received a letter yet but her status on Spire had been updated this morning to say that she had been accepted.

Congrats to everyone who has heard all ready. Just wish we would hear!!!

TedL- maybe our sons will end up at UConn in Mech Eng together.

Mailed packet received today – Out of state, Accepted to Engineering Honors Program, $10k scholarship.
