My son just got his acceptance letter! Funny story. Mail delivery was very late today. I was on the porch when the mailman came, and he handed me a stack of mail, no large envelope. My heart sank as I started walking into the house. Then a moment later he turned around and said, oh wait, I've got one more, and it was the big caltech envelope. They also offered to fly him out for pre-frosh weekend, but said fin. aid offers won't be mailed until March 30. Does this mean he isn't being offered any merit aid, or would that be included in the fin. aid letter?

Regarding a stats thread, just start another one if that is what interests you, but I don't see how you can sum up these kids accomplishments on a 'stats' page.

Waitlisted. Not sure whether to be happy or sad.

I was actually hoping for a rejection so I could assure myself that I'd be going to Cornell... and then hoping for an acceptance, since Caltech is awesome... but instead, this. Lol.
[/quote]

That's funny, I was waitlisted last year, and was going to attend Cornell when Caltech randomly sent me a large package in May :D There's hope :)

[*] Other thoughts: Still don't know whether to take the spot on the waiting list just to see if I can get in, or to leave it for someone who really wants to go to Caltech. :/ But congrats to everyone who got in![/ul]

* Location (State or Country): TX
* Ethnicity & Gender: asian female
* Major strength/weakness: difficult courseload and internship/ essays
* Your thoughts on your decision: I'm really happy because this is totally unexpected, but now I have to decide between MIT and caltech.... which is going to be a very hard decision to make.

Canadian = Waitlisted. I will update Caltech on several new accomplishments...so I'm hoping to see palm trees in the fall. Yay! :)

lizzardfire, zoogies, and anyone else who was waitlisted last year: Any tips on how to make the best of the waitlist situation? I recently made US Physics Semis, but couldn't get that in on time before decisions were made...maybe the Update form is a good place to start? I want to let Caltech know that it's effectively my first choice.

lizzard, I've also heard that you corresponded with Ben Golub a lot last year. How helpful was he? I haven't seen him around the forums lately though :(.

phuriku, I'm so rooting for you man! Hope you hear some good news today!

My D was accepted! Stats: GPA: 3.8/4.7, SAT 2300 (800 math), ACT: 35 (36 math), MathIIC: 800, Physics: 800, two summers of physics research, CS ECs, nice (but not AMO level) AMC and AIME scores. Our feelings right now: Wow!
