That’s a bummer, I really can’t afford it any other way.

Accepted, too. :)

They gave me the Trustees’ scholarship, but it sounds like a grant with a GPA requirement. And then I got a small grant based on need.

Financial aid was blah. Don’t think I’m going.

My D is accepted, with some good scholarship money!

Now she’s got a real quandary, though, because Oxy is the one school we are not going to be able to visit before decision time.

If anyone is wondering what the big orange envelope looks like, there is a picture on their facebook page.

[Occidental College’s Photos - Your admission decision packets - it’s in the mail! | Facebook](Redirecting...)

I’m in!
I won’t be going though. Although that President’s Scholarship for $15K a year looks mighty good to my parents and me! : )
It’s still going to be too much to afford. And I have already gotten into a few other places that I like a little better.
I did like Oxy a lot though… I know that I would love going there.

I got waitlisted. I don’t know if I want to remain on it. I want to, but I don’t know. I’m fickle.

congrats to all who got in! :)

I am on the East Coast. Nothing came in the Mail today. Is anyone else still waiting?
Thanks.

I would call them; my son’s packet came in mail on Saturday to South Florida

got in! with a dean’s scholarship. Im pretty sure I will be going there, unless pitzer offers me some incredible aid…

SHould I be getting my letter today? I’m in Sacramento and haven’t received it yet

Woo! Accepted!

I got the Honors Scholarship.

I’m from Arkansas, by the way.

For those who received scholarships, would you mind posting your stats?

Not to sound cocky, but based on the class profile I’m surprised I didn’t get any money.

Wait-listed. I’m absolutely devastated. :(

Agreeing with Arrowhead.

2030 SAT (superscored), 4.2 weighted GPA, 3.8 unweighted GPA, 28 ACT, top 10%, tons of extra-curric.
A little surprised.

I got the 5000$ scholarship, which really surprised me because my stats aren’t incredible for the biggest applicant pool in oxy’s history.
1860 SAT, 3.73 weighted GPA, terrible EC’s. probably my essays and recs saved me.

I’m guessing they are protecting their retention rate.

S got in, with no money.
His stats were: 2060/2400 (took test once in Jr. yr.), 29 ACT, 3.45 unweighted, 5.47 weighted (FL’s insane), IB curriculum in large magnet high school. Weak extra curriculars (all video/film/art related), very good rec letters (I think!), and he writes very well.

My D is there now (with $5K/yr. award), so either they think he’ll sign for family unity (ha!) or maybe they think they’ve given this family enough.

hey! anything you or your daughter can say about the college? how does she like it? overall impression? is it worth all of that money :P? i’m also from east coast, so i don’t want to go all the way to cali on a whim.

my general worries are:

distance from home
money
no car
huge city
little known reputation outside of Cali
size
type of students

many of these worries are just natural for any college. any other tips/info?

thanks!

As much as moms r-e-a-l-l-y know about their daughters…she is very, very happy there. Her choices were UFlorida, Bryn Mawr & Macalester. She had been at a coed boarding school in the midwest for 3 years in high school - snow, corn, the whole bit. So she didn’t want to replicate the experience at a typical small liberal arts college and only opted to apply to LACs in urban areas. I consider her to be an excellent judge of her surroundings, and a decent judge of people. High on intrapersonal intelligence, if you get the drift. Her decision matrix went like this: the school is a seriously dedicated place of higher learning, with kids who are “chill”, not competitive. The city is right there, the weather is wonderful. Her program, biology, gives her research opportunities. We told her we’d pay for either undergrad or grad, and she chose to use funds for Oxy and finance her grad. Each semester, like clockwork, we ask her if she still loves it there; she was free to transfer if she’d like, and she just likes it so much that she won’t consider it. I’ll be out there starting midweek to check up on her cold and her next year’s living arrangement (while my son looks at Chapman and Oxy) and I’m sure I’ll figure out how truly right this fit is for her. In the meantime, she’s enjoying herself and on track, so we’re cool with this. If you want her email, send me a personal message and I’ll connect you.

the size really gets to me too. I go to a private school, and the class size is just a little under the class size of Oxy, and i’ve always wanted to go to some huge university. But I guess what it comes down to is that you’d form a group at oxy approximately the same size as you would at any other university.

and North, if I get to know you, I’ll drive you around LA anywhere! though I dont really know LA that well, I do live 50-65 minutes away from oxy
