RD decisions?

got my acceptance package  sooo happy. its a big envelope. i live in south florida (ft lauderdale area)

Congrats to all who got in and FYI on the mail
My D got in ED in November and the letter took an entire week from the original postmark to arrive in Dallas. So try not to worry - the mail can be very unpredictable!!! I wish WF had online notification
waiting was so frustrating! Good luck!

I got my acceptance letter today! I live in Southeast VA though (WF is like 3.5 hours away, so I knew I’d get something today). Now I have to choose b/w Wake, UVA, URichmond, and Emory (and Duke, Dartmouth, and Brown IF i get in)! Congrats to everyone who got in, and for those still waiting, it’s only a few hours away!!!

kayy, how’d you find out from Emory already??

Wait listed. What are the numbers of last year’s wait list and how many got accepted/admitted?

Lol
kwal you got yours too? I hope I get mine today. (Fyi: I live in Boca, so you can understand my predicament kwal)

has anyone heard from CT??

i havent but my mail doesn’t come until later on

accepted from ny

My D got wait-listed. Is it worth pursuing this or should she just go with her second choice (Furman)? What do you all think? Her stats were very good, I thought. She got 31 on ACT, 3.98 UW GPA, lots of community service, activities, etc
She has taken a lot of tough classes. So, I am puzzled. If she sends back her card to be waitlisted, should she pick May 15th, or perhaps July 1st?

I applied to both Furman and Wake Forest. The two are drastically different and Wake is definitely worth pursuing. Wake is easily Furman’s academic superior. Did she apply elsewhere?

Accepted in New York

GoldenDomer, she got accepted at Rollins College, Winter Park Florida (that is where we live), they gave her a very nice scholarship (full tuition), but she will be living at home. She didn’t apply anywhere else.

Why do you say they are drastically different (I know the size is different and national univ vs liberal arts)? But education wise, both good schools.

Get on the list for WF. I’m about to check if I got a decision in the mail or not.

Hooray! I got accepted from Louisiana! My stats are:

ACT-30
Top 10% of very, competitive school in state. My school is in the top 3% of all high
schools in the U.S. All gifted, honors and AP courses. Rank: 22 out of 230

Spent one summer in french immersion program in France. Another summer working at the university as a lab assistant. Another summer as junior counselor at Christian camp.

Recs - great; EC’s - Young Republicans, Z Club, 4 years as Senator in SGA, Red Cross, Key Club, Lacrosse team, violin x 6 years

Hook: (if any) President of Youth Legislature at school and co-wrote a bill and researched it last year that made it to Governor Bobby Jindal to be signed.

Good luck everyone! Hope to meet some of you soon!!! :-)

Congrats france10. Check your pm’s.

@KJVJohn316: Education wise they are both very good. I myself applied to both because I thought that. It’s just that WF has a certain appeal that Furman doesn’t. High-profile sports, better academics, and somewhat of a national name. What exactly does your daughter want to study? That could make a difference.

KJV-
I have some experience with both Furman and Wake and will have to take exception to the young man (?) GoldenDomer, who while I am sure is well-intentioned, seems to have definitive opinions on many of the large number of schools to which he has applied. DH and I have twins who are completing their sophomore year at Furman. They made the decision to attend based upon a number of factors including wanting a relatively small LAC with excellent reputation for professional school admissions, great access to professors, quality of classroom interchange and campus life. Both were accepted to at least 9 schools and D denied at Cornell ( college of Human Ecology and Dartmouth) both accepted at Pepperdine-year of their acceptance admission rate 27%. They have been happy at Furman, but very busy with academics-Golden Domer is missing the mark on the academics of Wake versus Furman. Selectivity rating for Furman is, in fact, 3-4 points higher than Wake per Princeton Review and both schools are test optional-though Furman requires students to submit one of three options of standardized testing.

I am a Wake Alum of post grad program in school of medicine and wanted our kids to apply. DD was extremely interested until she heard about the issues with the major alcohol problems with Greek scene - * see prior posts on WFU threads. Since my sister and family live in W-S, I did know this was the case and not another urban legend. Does drinking happen at all colleges? Yes. But enough to tie up over 50% of one county’s EMS trucks on a given evening from one college campus-that is a problem.

The alcohol problem not withstanding, I still love Wake and know your daughter would love it there, but my point is Furman is not an “also ran” institution. The incoming president is Rod Smolla, the Dean of the Law School at Washington and Lee- a Yale undergrad and Duke Law grad. His son in a freshman at Furman. Perhaps consider visiting some of her other schools to see what feels right. Our experience was best if we went on NON new student accepted days-sit in on classes and talk with other students your daughter sees in the dining hall and classes. Best of luck to your family at this important and exciting time.

DS got accepted to WFU (I can tell by the big, white envelope that says Welcome!), but I can’t open the envelope since he left for Dominican Republic early this morning! We’re in Central California. It will be a long week, seeing envelopes I can’t open! :(

Just feel like I want to pipe in here. First, congratulations to all on your acceptances. I just want to comment about the post regarding alcohol at Wake. There is no excuse for what happened this year at the pledge night regarding many students overdrinking however, I think it is dangerous to classify Wake Forest as a school that has alcohol problems. Only about half of the school is Greek and I have never been one who cares for people painting a situation with a broad brush, so to speak. The actions of a handful of students should not condemn the entire student population. Drinking takes place on all college campuses, Greek or not. I think that most people would not even know about this incident except for the fact that the University and Greek chapters have chosen to address what happened and the goings on have been published in the campus paper and Winston-Salem journal. I just think you have to be careful what you say on a forum like this especially since many students are deciding whether or not they will or won’t attend Wake Forest. To classify the school as one with an alcohol problem is irresponsible. As I said drinking takes place everywhere and I am happy that the administration wants to work with the Greek chapters to prevent this situation from happening again. They could have buried their heads in the sand as I am sure many other schools do.

accepted from CT!!! finally
