RD Decisions

kmtt, you are absolutely right, and I see more examples of it all the time. First hand, my friend had higher test scores, class rank, gpa, etc. He never visited Lehigh. I did. I got in, he didn’t.

I will say though, admitting students based on a general application, and even if they made everyone take an interview, it’s still a crapshoot. You don’t know what kind of kid you have until they have been there for a semester or two.

still no decision.

Decisions for Regular Decision were released online Thursday, March 25. Letters were mailed on Friday, March 26.

Note: Decisions for students applying to the Accelerated Medical and Dental programs have not been completed.

The thing is i didn’t apply to the medical programs…
why do you think this is?

amraa, you better call Lehigh Admissions and tell them that you didn’t apply to the medical programs.

So excited!!!

Stats:
Act: 30
GPA: 4.5 weighted out of 5.0…from 1 of top 2 high schools in state. Very competitive.
Top 10% of class. Many extracurriculars with leadership in some. Great recs
from teachers and counselor. All honors, gifted and AP courses. Good luck
everyone for the rest of your schools!

yay accepted
act: 31
gpa 4.0 (boss haha)
7 ap’s total
rank: 11 outa 1,025
great essays, recs, ecs
visited over summer

i’m either gonna go here, pitt, or notre dame

Accepted!!

1390/2130 sat
93% gpa

accepted to IDEAS!

SAT: 2140
10 AP’s total
GPA:95 weighted

Decision: ACCEPTED
Major: engineering
3.6 weighted GPA (out of 5)

SAT I: 2210 (750 M, 750 W, 750 CR)
SAT II: 750 MII, 780 Chem, 710 Lit
Rank: school does not rank

honors/aps:
AP computer science sophomore year (no AP test)
Honors chem junior year
Ap literature and AP calculus AB senior year (test to be taken)

EC: National Merrit commended, National Honors Society, recreational sports (soccer), small amount of community service, music, Discus / shot-put in track, misc other stuff that shouldn’t make much of a difference at any university.
Job/Work Experience: Soccer referee, starting at age 11 (year earlier than most, father is a referee coordinator in my club). It’s more like being paid to do an extra-curricular activity than anything else though, as the enjoyment I get out of it outweighs any pay I get.

Essay: Common app essay written about my passions in tinkering while growing up. Lehigh essay showed large interest in the school, as well as my having done quite a bit of research about the school. Equity and community essay also pretty good (not sure what to judge it against though)
Great teacher and counselor recommendations.
Applied in Regular decision.

State: California
School: small, competitive public high-school with a very good reputation
Ethnicity: Mix (Japanese / Swiss American)
Gender: Male

Visited Lehigh: Yes, info-session over summer. Also had informative interview with Majed Dergham.

Accepted at: University of California: Berkeley, Davis, Santa Cruz, Riverside, University of Puget Sound, University of the Pacific, Syracuse
Waitlisted: Tulane, University of California: Irvine (this caused me to raise an eyebrow… I got into Berkeley and not Irvine?)
Waiting on: Carnegie Mellon University
Rejected:Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

emailed the admissions about my situation…
i guess they don’t work on weekends, which means 2-3 whole days of hell.

Major: engineering (I suppose it helps I’m a girl for this major)
SAT: 2230
SAT II: 750 chem, 730 physics
GPA (uw): 3.77
Courses: (I know we all only really care about APs so I’ll only list them) chem (5), physics (5), this year: bio, calc ab and english lit. My school has a horribly unforgiving schedule for AP students that doesn’t really allow for more than 3 per year (I had to drop language my junior year to fit chem).
ECs: 2 varsity sports, captain of one of them (although i wouldn’t play either at lehigh), bit of community service (kind of meshed my interest in chemistry with my service), interned with a neurologist, head of chemistry club, play bass in a band - this sounds way more legitimate than I thought…
Essays: common app: kinda weird, about my brother; why lehigh? i talked about the involvement of the community; community/equity nonsense: I related it to a mosh pit…I guess they liked it

Waiting to hear from: Johns Hopkins + Carnegie Mellon
Waitlisted: Wash U. St. Louis + UChicago
Accepted: Emory

Good luck to everyone! If you’re a junior and want advice, send me a message I’d be glad to talk to you :)

Congratulations to all those accepted! Now comes the decision to attend or not. Just remember your next 4 years will be the best 4 years in your life…period! Lehigh will offer you the same education as all the other elite schools but its the intangible that makes Lehigh so great. Choose wisely!

lol WaitingDad… the ‘best 4 years’ thing is so cliche haha

chemEng7, which schools are you leaning towards?

ACCEPTED! Although… I’ve never shown them any interests and my scores are pretty average:

SATs: 1940
ACT: 30
GPA: 3.91

@johnadams12
i got into cmu today but if i get into hopkins, i’ll go. if i get waitlisted or rejected there, i’ll accept a spot at either emory or lehigh and see what happens with my waitlist schools…

ChemEng7 and Rhomboid, congrats on ur acceptance!! My son was also accepted to Lehigh Engineering (MechE) and is now deciding between Lehigh and Carnegie Mellon (he was accepted as a Physics major and waitlisted for CIT). We will revisit both colleges to further confuse him -LOL!

Frazz, congratulations…

Never been to CM, but I heard its campus is not the prettiest…

chemEng7, from someone who has a BSChE, what a great alias you have…ha!

hopefully you will end up with your top choice, although the alternatives are also very good…

JohnAdams12 - will let you know how the CM campus is in 2 weeks! But first to revisit Lehigh!

JohnAdams12, I was just curious, are you going to be a freshman at Lehigh this year?
