RD - do colleges see senior grades?

if you apply for regular decision, do colleges normally ask for your 1st semester grades and incorporate that into their admissions decision?

yes. that's what the midyear report is i believe?

Depends on college. Those that ask you to send mid-year grades and make their RD decisions between Feb and April factor those grades into the admission decision. However, there are many colleges that make their RD decisions earlier than that and depend on grades through junior year. Moreover, some that make the decision between Feb and April use only grades through junior year, e.g., all UC's.

If you are an auto-accept or an auto-deny, it obviously won't matter. The mid-year senior report is most important for applicants who are borderline. In that case, somebody will go into the mailroom looking for it, and if they can't find it, call the GC at the high school.
