RD has higher acceptance rate than ED?

Someone on CC told me about how applying ED won't help too much for hotel school. So I went to Cornell's website and found this for Hotel school.

Statistics and Profile
2008 Admissions

Early Decision Regular Decision Total

Applicants 229 715 944
Admits 48 163 211
Enrolling 47 120 167

So it seems like RD has a higher (very slightly though) acceptance rate than ED. Isn't that unusual? Any guesses/explanations for this?

the differences between those two are statistically insignificant.

could be caused by any number of random and insignificant things.

If it's your dream school, apply ED. If not, then you know what to do.

yup its my dream school so i'm still applying ED but i was just curious

I guess if you want to play it strategically, you can do this:
Apply ED to another dream school of yours that is a reach but still a possibility, then RD to Cornell since it's the same acceptance rate, even higher.
But, don't do this if Cornell is the absolute ONLY place you would want to be.

um if he applies ED to another school and gets in, he is legally bound to go there.

a) don't base your entire college application process on some percentages.
b) you have more of a chance to get in ED than RD, regardless of what the percentages say, because some students were deferred ED and accepted RD.
c) if it really is your dream school and you would love to go there, apply ED and if you are accepted, not have to worry about the rest of the crazy applications process. if you are deferred, wait it out till RD with everyone else. if you are rejected outright, get it over and done with, and start to figure out your next favorite place to go to school.

ED, if you are sure about it, really is a win/win/win

blasphemy!

^^^ Yeah I know, but I was saying if he had another dream school he wouldn't mind going to other than Cornell, he could apply ED there and RD to Cornell, so his chances of getting into A dream school are double..slightly.
