Anyone else get one yet? I received mine today!! (In-state)

do you mean the letter about being a distinguished/promising applicant? i got that today; don't know what it means though.

yea, i'm an international applicant living out of state but in the US and i got it too...weird. if somebody got this letter last year, could you please advise as to the significance, apart from you know the blah blah a good candidate stuff?

blindhope: there are massive amounts of info on the UNC board as to what they mean, if you just spend a few seconds looking. congrats to you all!

90%-95% in I'd say.

There are some rare documented cases of people getting likely letters and then being deferred in the EA round. But these were few and far between.

VC: oops, sorry about that, i didnt realize we could search individual forums under advanced search until now. thanks tho

haha, no prob, jst wanted to let you know :)

My D got a likely letter on Saturday too - OOS, RD. I'm hoping that if they think she is a strong enough candidate to have sent this to her, they will also think she is a strong enough applicant to award her a merit scholarship. OOS costs are so much higher than IS.

I got one as well! Its the first admissions-related tidbit I've gotten back from a university so far, so I've been quite excited. I didn't know how I'd fare OOS but I guess this gives me quite a hint.

you guys are in no worries
relax and celebrate :)

i got one too! OOS! so excited!

I got a letter that said, among a few other things, "I write to thank you for your distinguished application to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Although our admissions committee will not complete its work until March, we have already been impressed by your achievements and your potential. We believe you are an outstanding candidate-the kind of student who will contribute to our community and make full and creative use of the opportunities we offer."

It seemed likely that this was the "likely letter" you guys were talking about but I wanted to make sure. Assuming that it is the same letter, how sure are we that this means we are in?

your like 95% in my friends. at the SUPER least you will get deferred, but thats a rare case. i was talking to my friends who got likely, and none got rejected. there is another "likely letter" thread for ED and only about 1 person got deferred out of all the likely people in that thread. dnt worry about it and congratulations!!

Do they send those letters all out at once?

For those who have received the likely letters, when did you apply?
