Yes, visiting or communicating with Elon makes a difference. My friend was deferred EA but visited a few weeks ago, met the admissions rep, and just got in. Stats are 3.6 GPA UW, 1810 SAT, good ECs with leadership positions. They have so many applicants, they need to know you’re seriously considering attending.

D was accepted ED; someone with MUCH higher stats from her school who applied RD was waitlisted…but really never showed interest and I imagine her essays did not reflect how she “fits” into the Elon environment…

also, if one was interested in Elon (to any extent), and had stats that were on the moon, the only reason to wait to apply RD would be if you had an application in to another school that prevented you from applying EA…

net-net: to applicants for next year: apply EA (at least) if you are interested…don’t wait for RD…and make sure that your admissions rep knows that you want to go…

I got waitlisted. I think I am going to take myself off, because I was accepted with 2/3 tuition at a similar school in Florida. 3.8 with honors and aps at a private school and a 25 act. Act is probably what killed me.

I applied RD to Elon and was waitlisted!

My stats:
GPA: 3.9
SAT: 1890
Lots of work experience, ec’s and volunteer work
From NY

I was accepted to Rollins College and Stetson University in FL with $20,000+ scholarships at both! Pepperdine University is my first choice! I am still waiting on decisions from Pepperdine and Chapman University in CA.

I took myself off the waitlist for Elon!

It seems like a lot of other qualified applicants were waitlisted as well!

I was waitlisted. I don’t want to post my stats just yet, but my GC told me that I was well-qualified to be accepted. I’m staying on the waitlist for now, because I’ve only heard from one other school. I’m gonna wait to see what my final offers are. I’m definitely still interested in Elon, but I didn’t get a chance to visit and I guess Elon didn’t think I was interested? I can understand why, but it still stinks.

Keeping my head up to get off the waitlist!

Elon usually keeps a very large waitlist. If you are still interested be sure to let them know. Last year they did pull from the waitlist.

redeye, I wouldn’t presume to guess why you were waitlisted with your stats. All I can say is that Elon does not seem to be as “numbers driven” as many other colleges. They are really after students who are active - in sports, community service, and leadership. From what I’ve seen, Elon has a lot of B+ students who probably could have been A- students except that they were busy playing two sports, acting in the play, running student government and volunteering on the weekends. Their Admissions Office even told the Elon newspaper (the Pendulum) last fall that they weren’t really concerned about the next year’s class having higher test scores and GPAs than current students. They said they think we’ve got pretty good students already, and they know who their kids are.

Also, my D will be an Orientation leader next year. She said they were told the numbers for this year’s admissions class were leaning more heavily female than last year (which ended up 58% female). If you are a female, that probably makes admission tougher. OTOH, if you are a male, it’s an even bigger mystery why you were waitlisted - but perhaps gives you a better shot of getting off the wait list.

Blackeagle- If you’re really interested, let them know! It makes all the difference. (Speaking from experience.)
