NEDad - I really like what you said, I'm a freshman at bowdoin - after the first week maybe you wont talk about SATs at all, and saying 'i got a 1600 800 800 800 5/5/5/5/5/5/5 top 1% etc' will get people annoyed at you.

Thanks Oliver. No one else commented on my post, so maybe they don't believe it! But they will - either when they are turned down, OR when they get to campus!

hi nedad. The most important reason for me to apply to Bowdoin was that they do not narrowly focus on the standard test. I did take SAT test but I did not submit them, and happy or lucky enoughl, I got in. I believe in your words. And thank you for Oliver, your post encouraged me a lot. :)

I thought your post was great nedad. When I saw the list of stats, I started to panic because it made my stats look inferior, even though they are not. But your post reassured me that I won't get rejected because i don't have perfect test scores (although I'm sure they will reject me for other reasons).

I agree with rachie3953 ... I was relieved when I read nedad's post. Just looking at everyone's stats is intimidating!!

and rachie3953: Be postive! Think of reasons why they'll accept you!! :)

For some people wondering, I just saw this on the bowdoin website (some ED I and II info)

I saw that article on the website too. It looks likes nothing really has changed from the past years, at least I think so. Hopefully, admissions won't get ten times tougher this year for us.

Philosophia: the only reason I get so negative is that I don't want my heart to be broken when I get rejected from a school. I'm trying not to get too set on any one school. My friends all think that I will get in everywhere but I don't think they really know what they are talking about (especially since they are convinced i would get into Harvard as well).

rachie3953: I understand being realistic about college decisions, believe me, we're all in the same boat. Colleges are gambles these days, although some colleges (like Bowdoin) try to find some personality in the canidate.

And with all this new research stating that our thoughts have some control over happenings, being negative will just affirm your negative predictions. Now, I'm not saying to go around proclaiming that you're a definite for Harvard or Bowdoin or any college for that matter ... but keep some hope (hope is the thing with feathers afterall... to borrow from dickinson).

I once read that "Reality is the mirror of your thoughts. Choose well what you put in front of the mirror." (forget who said this, I read it a loong time ago).

Constant negative thinking only builds a neural net of negativity in your brain ... perfect example - my grandmother makes herself get sick by convincing herself she has some new disease or something.

Besides, from your posts, I've already found a reason why Bowdoin should accept you: you're humble!! Can't say that I've seen that lately. :)

Haha, I sound like one of those people on tv trying to get you into buying my book. Just two payments of 19.95! ;)

Hope I don't sound too crazy ... and good luck! :)

Hey, I would buy your new book for two payments of 19.95 ... but only if you threw in a Bowdoin T-shirt if I called within the next five minutes.
I think the only reason I am getting so negative is that I know I have two months of waiting left before I get any decisions. One of my friends has already found out that she got accepted everywhere she applied, so its kind of hard to wait. I'm definetly very excited for all my friends who have been admitted to where they want to go, but I just wish I could experience the same feeling. I'm really not as negative as its sounds, it just comes out that way sometimes.
OH, and my grandma definetly does the same thing, she makes her self sick a lot too.
I realized my last post made it sound like I'm applying to Harvard but I'm not, that's just my friends talking. I don't want to feed onto that Ivy League = the only way to success for undergrad, that's what grad school is for!!! (No offense to anyone applying to the Ivies)

woohoo! sold for a free Bowdoin shirt (LOL!) Total books sold: 1 ... wait, my mom would buy one too! So two books sold!! heh

Hmmm ... maybe then, the making yourself sick is a grandma characteristic?!

sorry I assumed you were applying to Harvard! :( Looking back, I really just took it and ran with it. Sorry, lack of sleep!

Heh, way to kill my ivy dreams. LOL, not really. The only ivy I applied to was Brown b/c Brown is awesome like that. People don't really even think it's an ivy ... they laugh and say "Brown is the name of a college? Hahaha!" But forget them, they haven't even heard of Bowdoin either ... shows how much they know. But Brown is similar that they try to find some personality in the applicant, which is comforting ... a little ... I hate being a number. And I definitelly cannot see myself as a person that feeds "onto that Ivy League = the only way to success for undergrad" ... psh, after all, it's just some sports alliance. :)

Time to get studying for my spanish midterm...

Yeah, if I were to apply to any ivy it would probably be Brown just because it fits the most with my personality. But I know what you mean, almost no one has heard of most of the schools I am applying to, although some people have heard about Bowdoin, which surprises me. Then again, I go to Catholic school, where people think that Notre Dame and BC are God and that anyone who gets into them can get into any school they want.
I think we should start another school named after a color like ... Purple University. Ha, I would definetely apply there!
